I subscribed to The Athletic about a year ago on an introductory subscription offer. It's been good. They have quality writers and articles. However, I got hit with a subscription renewal notice today. It was quite a bit more than the introductory offer.
I decided to cancel the subscription. They immediately popped up an offer for a reduced rate which was quite a bit less than the original introductory subscription offer.

So, if you are a subscriber and want a better renewal rate, hit cancel and see what you get.

I subscribed a few years ago when they were new. When the introductory rate expired and I canceled I was not offered a deal. They must have learned a lesson.

Anyway kudos to the Athletic )and also to the Dispatch, btw) for not making
it a “you must speak on the phone to a persistent sales rep” hassle to cancel.

If it’s decent product/service, I find that I want to pay a reasonable fee.

Totally agree, just have yet to find one, heh. It must be daily, at
least weekly, to justify paywall for me.

The Athletic has a $1.99/month offer running right now. Almost too hard
to pass up.

That’s what they offered for me to resubscribe, but I paid the $24 for the year.
