The best thing that could happen to the GOP would be for Trump to get convicted of something that prevents him from seeking office. Desantis would do what Trump couldn't... expose Democrats by the book and keep his mouth shut while doing it. I, like a
lot of conservatives, don't really want to see another term of Trump turmoil. I don't think independents would vote for him either. But let the Democrats be successful with this persecution of Trump and they'll line up to vote Republican like never
before. I expect even moderate Democrats think this is too much.

no, mod Dems don't think such a thing. But I'll say this, Trump on the Repub line in '24 would bring out more Dems to vote against him than DeSantis.

Could he give the order to Open Fire, though?

That's DeSatan's biggest weakness. He certainly has a bit more nerve to work within the system, but I think it's clear that more than a number of these people want to shoot the "others", and I'm not 100% sure DeSantis can actually pull the trigger.

But here's the thing: If you're right and this is persecution, there will never be another election. You don't want one and we know it.

Don’t underestimate the “a jealous Trump undermines DeSantis at every turn”

Trump accused FBI of stealing his ‘three’ passports in Mar-a-Lago search

It may be going in the direction of charging him with something that will keep him from running for office or running away

Tho some say the passports are no more than diplomatic ones he is no longer entitled to

One or two of them might be -- but keep in mind...

This fucker still thinks he's President, and the better part of 140 million Americans agree with him.

As far as the second part: I think the "running away" part has started. The problem with the "office disqualification" part is that it will be challenged into the Alito/Thomas Court.
