You have one relevant school due to corporate ties. Your only other four relevant schools are the ones the Big XII is bringing in from outside the Power 5.

How long does this conference survive until one of two things happens?

Either it becomes effective between FBS-I and FBS-II (and loses relevant talent as a result!) or

It goes FCS completely as a few schools get picked off to replace the Illinois' and Purdues of the world in the final reality...

That's where Alex Smith came from

    http://blogs.mercurynews.com/49ers/2013/01/10/alex-smith-staying-ready-because-you-never-know-when-opportunity-is-going-to-come/

here's an article of old vintage which suggests he is ok but i still don't believe he ever got over his concussion

But then again I do not remember whether he was sane before he got hit in the head

vick didn't sound sane before his concussion, like that one weekend where he said the refs were racists

So it is hard to pretend he was worse off after getting hit in the head

i thought a lot of what they were doing here while Kaepernick filled in for Smith had to do with when they cut Smith and Kaepernick from the team, the specific date would have made a difference as to how much they owe them, what and who they could trade
    for and stuff like that

Smith was a good back up to have if he really was healthy
    i still doubt it
I thought maybe they didn't want to plug on him to give him the maximum amount of time to get better to see if he can be traded or if they have to cut him but then to my surprise Smith ended up having four decent playoff years with Kansas city after
taking a year or so to veg after busting his head
