I sincerely DO NOT want to restrict the freedoms already granted to
law-abiding citizens by the Second Amendment. But all the pro/con
arguments about control are getting a little old now...aren't they?

It's the children who are not getting older and they cannot control
their fate. This IS NOT the world I hoped to live in when I was young.

I hope everyone is praying really hard right now. I mean... harder than ever. Eventually, it'll just stop happening if we just pray about it really hard.

That is wishful thinking. This is who we are, who we've become. I
thought maybe after Sandy Hook we'd see some reasonable restrictions,
    but no.

good answer. With a slight correction- it's not who we've become. It's who we *always have been*.

do you have an actual suggestion to reduce mass shootings? And don't say some variation of "let's just do what (insert any european country that doesn't have mass shootings) does". Because that's not an actual solution.

That may, shockingly, have been the truest statement you have ever made in this newsgroup -- and the ramifications of it's truth should be scary to everyone.

    Remember, to the Founders:

-- Anyone but White (cis-)Male Landowners were savages or non-human.
-- Blacks were farm equipment, shipped from Africa solely for that purpose (with the trip over killing any but the strongest)
-- Women were servants of Men, from the rib of Adam
-- And no one dared SPEAK of the concept of LGBTs, etc.

Anyone sufficiently "in the way" was killed.

This is the world many want back, up to the Originalists of the Supreme Court.

Because, remember: At the end of the day, if inflation is caused by too much money being pumped into the system, the only way to deal with that is taking out that money. The only way to do THAT is to kill everyone and everything reliant on same.

30% immediately, another 30% over the next generation as you replace them with the abortions the law will now prevent.

(Number based on at least one Conservative/Libertarian economist's decree the entire leverage/free-credit/free-money expansion of the last 40 years must be rewound in this process. That also means the population expansion must go to, and that's 30% of
    the current population.)

Sure. Raise the legal age of a person to buy an assault rifle to 21.

Sure. Raise the legal age of a person to buy an assault rifle to 21.

there are so many ifs, possibles, and maybes there........

*If* a person like this shooter fundamentally changes as a person from the age of 18 to 21, it's *possible* that
he doesn't wind up doing something like this. And *maybe* he also doesn't get one of these weapons from a
friend/relative/coworker/whoever while we are hoping he changes from 18-21 into a person who wouldn't do this....since there are almost 400 million firearms in the US and of those tens and tens of millions are so called 'assault rifles'. And what *if*
he instead buys a firearm that isn't listed as one of these assault weapons but still is capable of firing a lot of rounds fairly quickly.

I just don't think it's realistic that what you suggest above would make a difference.

The reality is that from a realpolitik perspective people are always going to be able to legally buy firearms
that are capable of killing a whole lot of people in a short amount of time. Even with an 'assault weapons' ban.
