cost savings, (perhaps?) what's the up side?

Getting Person One outside of the competing schools to remotely care might be on the list...

That's actually a mistake on their part.

Give me Reason One, except to smash transgenderism, that women's sports even exists today. No one cares except the sexual assault of the athletes.

I think the idea was, somebody was under the delusion that they could generate more interest in the women's game by having it in the same general location (not necessarily the same arena, mind you) as the men's Final Four. One theory was, "Somebody who
is there trying to get a ticket to a men's game (and never mind they sell out months in advance) will decide to go watch a women's game instead, and things will build up from there." Of course, if this was remotely true, you could replace "women's game"
with "Division III men's game" and you should have the same result.

I would think you would be celebrating the deal USSF struck with the women's national soccer team, as it could be the first nail in the coffin of the WNBA. There are already calls of "The WNBA is next!", mainly by people who don't realize that the NBA (a)
already props up the WNBA, and (b) can pretty much pull out of the deal at any time - especially if anybody even remotely suggests that the entire league combined, much less one player, be paid what, say, LeBron is paid.

I don’t think the WNBA is going away anytime soon. It’s probably more popular now than ever. I can understand why the Phoenix Suns pay Chris Paul a lot more than the Phoenix Mercury pay Brittney Griner, but I think they should get equitable pay when
    playing for USA Basketball.

It's not the first nail in the coffin of the WNBA, but it might be the last one.

I'm fully aware the NBA is basically propping up the WNBA as a small summer league to keep up interest in basketball.

The WNBA is another example of how low we actually view American women athletes.
