Or until a tv network comes along with an offer they can’t refuse?

Probably a good idea. Twelve teams was a bad idea if the primary
objective is to determine a national championship.

Six teams would work with the top two getting a bye.

Five teams would work with four and five playing a play-in game.

Neither is ideal due to one team having to play two consecutive weeks.

No need for it, or any Playoff, at this juncture.

Who's going to do that? You can't be assured ESPN or NBC survives the next four years at the rate things are going...

What about “Welcome to the 2024 college football pre-quarterfinal round on Apple+ ( or on Amazon/Hulu/HBO/Netflix/Facebook). Enjoy your free trial that expires right before the semifinals kick off.”?

Unless they're FINALLY getting rid of all the 6-6 bowls, what do you think the bowl season actually IS? :)

Maybe "network" isn't exactly the right word? ESPN+ isn't going anywhere any time soon.
I just got an email from Amazon Prime that says, in effect, "We're the exclusive home of NFL Thursday Night Football now! Oh, and we're raising your fee by $2/month or $20/year if you pay that way." Something tells me these two facts are not completely
    unrelated.
