Does anyone know where George Brancato is now ? The last I heard
he was coaching the University College of Cape Breton Capers
football team. But they folded years ago after one or two seasons.
For those south of the border Brancato was head coach in Ottawa
during some of their good and bad years in the 1970's and 80's. He
often took groups of real no-name players and turned them into winners.
He had this habit of crunching ice cubes on the sidelines too. Hey
Ravi this is right up your alley. Where the heck is Brancato ?
With his experience I'm amazed he hasn't returned to coaching in the
CFL. Especially now that Pepper Rogers is a head coach...

    Dean Snow, Fredericton.

George Brancato is residing in Ottawa.

I saw George Brancato and his wife yesterday as they were shopping for food at the Metro store on Greenbank Road in Ottawa'a west end. I see him there almost every week. He lives in the area. I watched him play football for the Rough Riders when I was a
kid and I still recognize him.

"The Book" on George Brancato was that he knew how to evaluate talent and get the right mix to produce a winner, even without big name free agents. His downside was that a lot of the players didn't respect him as a coach. His football strategies confused
them and he was considered "soft". In fact, when he finally got fired he was replace by an ultra-disciplinarian coach named Joe Moss. His nickname was "Colonel Moss" as he was once in the US military and he drove the players to exhaustion in practice,
not to mention out of their minds. The players then missed Brancato. After Ottawa, he was an assistant for the Saskatchewan Roughriders then was out of the CFL the rest of his career. I heard he retired to Ottawa although he's not originally from here.
He's not someone that we hear from although I understand he stays connected with the local football fraternity.
