    Sporting crushes 10-men Midtjylland.

Anderlecht - Ludogorets (2-1) (agg: 2-2) On to extra time. Ludogorets must rue the abandonment of the AGR.

There is still one real cup left in the footballing world.

You just can not trust the Pretenders! They go and pull it of on Penals, would have been the weirdest Eurpoa in history had PSV put in another goal, but Sevilla still has their grip on their cup.

Barca leading 0-1 with a hop and a skip and a jump penal from Lewandowski that just barely made it in.

Interesting case in Firenze: Cabral had a header parried away on the goal line. Nobody thought it was in, other than the referee's wrist thingie, so he awarded the goal. Only then, VAR intervened and decided that the goal-line technology had failed, the
ball had not crossed the line, and called the goal off.

No matter, Saponara makes it 2-2, restoring Fiorentina's 4 goal advantage in the tie

Elsewhere, Lech Poznan up 1-0 over Bodoe.

Trabzonspor thought they had taken the lead in the tie, but VARobots have no sympathy for the victims of the Turksih earthquake.

Rennes ties it up with Shakhtar, thanks to forgotten Waka-er Toko Ekambi

Maybe it’s finally time for me to get glasses but I really struggled to see where the offside was? If someone was offside it must have been by a very fine margin.

VAR is a good concept executed badly if goals like this are being chalked off. Let’s get back to giving the attacker the benefit of the doubt.

    Juventus
    Sporting
    Leverkusen
    Sevilla
    Manchester United
    Roma
    Union
    Rennes - Shakhtar in ET

Pretty much all the favorites going through. Union over Ajax maybe the only mild upset. And ManU, I guess.

    Lazio
    Sheriff
    AEK Larnaca

I'm genuinely struggling with how the VAR panel gave this as offside? If anything the Basel defender's arm seems to be ahead of Denswil?

The arm doesn't count, and you can't really see the position of Denswil's foot from that angle. Terribly unlucky for Trabzonspor

Just to illustrate what I'm trying to say:

The above link has photos of the position with the VAR line drawn. The "scorer" was number 24 Denswil.

I'm genuinely struggling with how the VAR panel gave this as offside? If anything the Basel defender's arm seems to be ahead of Denswil?
The arm doesn't count, and you can't really see the position of Denswil's foot from that angle. Terribly unlucky for Trabzonspor

Still struggling to see how you can say either player's foot is further forward than the other and I guess that's kind of the point - if the calls are that marginal then VAR needs to leave well alone and let the goals stand.

This match isn't the only example, the over zealous way VAR is being implemented isn't within the spirit of the sport. I'm not sure if the "clear and obvious error" rule was changed or is just being ignored by the VAR panels but that version of VAR was
an example of video evidence adding value to the game.

Lightning struck twice - last season, this is how Shakhtar qualified to the Champions

    Round of 16 draws

    Europa League
Union Berlin - Union St. Gilloise
    Sevilla - Fenerbahce
    Juventus - Freiburg
    Bayer Leverkusen - Ferencvaros
    Sporting - Arsenal
    Manchester United - Real Betis
    Roma - Real Sociedad
    Shakhtar - Feyenoord

Interesting that all of the "seeded" teams (with the exception of Arsenal) will likely start the round as underdogs.

    Conference League
    AEK Larnaca - West Ham
    Lazio - AZ Alkmaar
    Basel - Slovan Bratislava
    Anderlecht - Villarreal
    Fiorentina - Sivasspor
    Lech - Djurgarden
    Sheriff - Nice
    Gent - Istanbul Basaksehir

There's a decent chance that the final stages here will see the usual Western European dominance. but so far there's a wide representation of countries here.
