  • Non-qualifiers team to win world cup ?

    What would be the best squad you could pick from nations that did not
    qualify for the WC, with the limitation that you can pick one and only
    one player from each team, and retired players are ineligible. How
    would such a team do ?

    Here is my feeble attempt:

    GK Oblak (Slovenia),
    LB Robertson (Scotland)
    CB Alaba (Austria)
    CB Bonucci (Italy) [or Acerbi or Bastoni]
    RB Murillo (Panama) or Aurier (Cote D’Ivoire) or Matt Doherty (Ireland)

    MF Ndidi (Nigeria)
    MF Almiron (Paraguay)
    MF Soucek (Czech R)

    FW Mahrez (Algeria)
    FW Haaland (Norway)
    FW Salah (Egypt)

    Reserves:
    GK Hradecky (Finland)

    no suggestions. The problem with only one player per nation is you have
    to leave out some very good players (Italians and Colombians front and
    centre). Maybe if the limit were three per country, as it is in the
    EPL fanstasy game, a team that actually would be a likely winner of the
    WC could be assembled.

    I'd like to think that's because it's a really good list. Couldn't think of any improvements first hand.
