This World Cup is NUTS!!!
Round of 16 technically began only in 1986... so this is the 10th World Cup with Round of 16!
Best World Cup for Asia so far!
Three Asian teams in R16 (Japan, S. Korea, Australia)
Joint Best (with 2014) World Cup for Africa so far!
Two African teams in R16 (Morocco, Senegal). If Cameroon makes it by defeating Brazil (highly improbable), then it will be Africa's best World Cup ever!
Worst World Cup for South American so far!
Only 2 South American teams in R16 (Brazil, Argentina)
Joint worst (with 1986/90/98, 2006/18) for North America
Only 1 nation in R16 (and that is USA, not Mexico or Costa Rica like in 1990). If USA were eliminated there would have been 0 in R16 which has never happened. Hats off to USA for keeping North American flag high 😉
Second worst for Europe
Only 7 nations so far (could be 8 in a few hours unless Cameroon can spring a surprise!). Worst was 2014 when only 6 made it. And ironically an European nation won it.
