Argentina was unlucky, with at least 2 of the offsides within a cat's whisker. But am I the only one who think they are massively overhyped as one of the favorites?

They have two aging stars in Messi and Di Maria, and one younger star in Martinez. The rest of the squad is quite underwhelming (for a so-called favorite). Recent form? They have been beating up on minnows all year. The only WC qualified team they faced
this year, Ecuador, ended up in a draw.

Mexico-Poland: I thought the penalty was a terrible call. The
defender was initially between Lewandowski and the ball, so
Lewandowski tried to shove him out of the way. He naturally shoved
back. A penalty shouldn't be given in that situation. Mexico as a
team has fantastic ball control and I do wish they could have scored.

Argentina-Saudis--a world clas team like their should have been able
to adjust their runs to the offiside trap They didn't. Meanwhile
those were two great Saudi goals.

The rest of this group will be awesome.

I think they're a good team, though relatively modest in comparison with
other Argentinian teams we've seem in the last 15 or 20 years.

But I think most of their recent good form was due to them being on a roll.
A feedback of self-confidence that gained some inertia, next thing you see they're almost setting a record unbeaten run.

And now this has been brought to a halt on the most abrupt way imaginable.

What effect this will have on their confidence remains to be seen. They do
have enough in the tank to overcome Poland and Mexico, IMHO, but the pressure is truly on for them, as they need points in both games, at least winning one of them. If they lose to Mexico, it's basically over.

Credit to the Saudis and to Hervé Renard. Had they blown one or two of those high offside traps, it's at least 2-0 against at halftime and who knows whether the floodgates would open? And those were very, very close calls. In the second half, Mohammed Al-Owais saved them a number of times and there was a shot saved almost at the line. They took a high risk and reaped a high reward.

Just read that the Saudi monarch decreed a holiday due to this result. Well,
it is one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history.

    Best regards,

    Lléo

Could there be a biscotto in the Wales England match, if Wales squeak a
win vs. Iran (which is a BIG IF in my opinion), and England manage to
control their arrogance enough to win vs. the USA (also not a given)?

I would imagine England would play a B side in the third match under
    those circumstances anyway.
