Come on Peru! Australia did the right thing, leaving Oceania and joining a confederation where it's easier to qualify for the World Cup. But Asia doesn't deserve more than 4 teams at the World Cup.

Today we will find out if the Asian 5th best team is better than the South American 5th best team. Peru looks the betting favourite.

    Well... That... was a half.

If anyone still thinks holding this tournament in the Middle East is any kind of a good idea, I submit this half as a counterexample.

    Nothing.

    I mean... NOTHING.

    No half-chances.

    No shots on goal.

    Yeah...

This is gonna be a problem.

I started out wanting Australia to win but when I saw they had the audacity to turn up wearing rugby style shirts with those green collars I changed my allegiance to Peru. Some things are just inexcusable.

I think nerves have more to do with the lack of scintillation than heat and humidity. Aussies had a decent chance towards the end and dare I say look more likely to win it.

But they did have the better of first ET, including their first shot on goal in the 99th.

Guess to see if it pays off or not. All this for a chance to play France in the first game. Then Tunisia followed by Denmark.
Watch him just stand there and play like a "normal" keeper on the last one.. LOL

And, you'd think, if they knew the possibility existed, they'd have seen the AUS goalie infringe on the last shot.

I think the Welsh may still have that title after what they did to Ukrania. But yeah, what an annoying fricking thing to do and bring him on no less at the end of the match to do it.

I just watched the replay and he did not encroach on the kick. His feet

About one to two jumps before the kick, both feet were in front of the line by enough distance you could see green.

Much the same as a foul shot in basketball, he encroached. Retake.

I can't agree. Stop the video at the exact moment the shooter makes
contact with the ball. The keeper's feet are on the line.

He had infringed a second or two before. He had already left his line.

When those kind of shenanigans are allowed, you have to keep a closer eye on the keeper at that point.

Before the kicker even started his run-up, he did indeed end up in front
of his line (looked like he stumbled a bit in his exuberant nonsense),
but quickly got back on the line. I can only assume the refereeing team
was not concerned about this because he derived no advantage from it,
and was in the proper position when the kick was taken.

Given all the antics kickers get up (taking those absurd little tiny
steps, slowing to a dead stop in their run-up) I might be a lot more
indulgent of keeper behaviour than some seem to be.

That is my thought, some of the run ups nowadays are as ridiculous as a keeper doing Disco dancing on the line (though on one of the kicks he actually was spinning around and facing away from the kicker). Maybe if they choreographed a bit better between
shooters and keepers it would be more fun. I did not see any real advantage the keeper was getting doing all his dance moves on the line, while a shooter stopping and starting can derive a real advantage.
In my day a keeper might try and psyche you out a bit by positioning himself to one side, but we did not do any choreographed run-ups either. You always feigned your run by making it look like you were going one way with the shot, but that was it, as a
right footer, I would almost always look to be going to the keepers left with my run and then go to his right, always just inside the post, nothing could stop that-well except maybe the post, or mis hitting the shot or a keeper not falling for it, but no
as I recall, it never failed.

The problem is, Law 14 actually requires the goalkeeper to stay on his line from the point the command is given to take the kick.

To my understanding, the "dead stop" to try to screw the keeper's timing IS, in fact, not legal.

I'm partially wrong. He can feint IN THE RUN UP. He cannot feint ONCE HE HAS REACHED THE BALL.

If you could point that out, that's also an infringement. But if it was on a successful take, the infringement is then ignored.
