For the first time ever, since the start of icehockey leagues in Sweden in the 1920s, Stockholm (the COUNTY, 2.4 million, ~23% of Sweden total), will not have representation in the top flight next season.

Djurgårdens IF, the last stand, was relegated yesterday after losing the 7 games playout series against Timrå IK by 0-4.

Are there any equivalents in the world where one of the two major team sports in a country has no representation from the capital area?

Just saw that it will remain that way for at least another year as Modo won Game 7 of
the Superettan play-off final against Djurgården.

What's worse, Brynäs got relegated and now there's an even bigger empty spot around
the centre of the SHL map.

    Ciao,

It's like Manchester United and Liverpool would be dwelling in the Championship.

Brynäs swept Djurgården in the Allsvenskan playoff finals and are
immediately back up, but the Greater Stockholm area won't have a team in
the SHL for the third consecutive season.

True, and fun fact: Those two teams, Djurgården and Brynäs, are the two
teams with the most Swedish Championships.

    1. Djurgårdens IF 16 (1926, 1950, 1954, 1955, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962,
    1963, 1983, 1989, 1990, 1991, 2000, 2001)

    2. Brynäs IF 13 (1964, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1976, 1977, 1980, 1993, 1999, 2012)

    3. Färjestads BK 10 (1981, 1986, 1988, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2009, 2011,
    2022)
