European Cups group stage starts next week, time to start thinking of your Use the NT teams:

Here are the rules, copied from last year:

    - Before each European match day, pick 12 players eligible to play for one national team (or a group of national teams). No more than 5 forwards, no
fewer than three defenders. Select a captain. Every goal scored by one of
your Players is worth one point, every goal scored by your captain is worth 2 points. Your total score is equal to the total number of goals, plus a Formula 1-style Bonus for placement within the round.

Submit your teams before kickoff of the first leg (two early games on
    Tuesday, September 6).

    Additional rules:

    - You can make unlimited substitutions to your squad, as long as the club of both the subbed in and subbed out player have not kicked off their match
    yet.

    - Players' nationality is based on FIFA eligibility for national team rules. If a
player is eligible to play for more than one NT, he can be selected by
managers of each of the NTs for which he is eligible. Example: Kemar Roofe
in 2020-2021 was eligible for both England and Jamaica. Since then he has declared for Jamaica, so he is only eligible for Jamaica (or CONCACAF).

    Last year's final standings:
    TotGoals TotPoints
    Vikings 30 64.5
    Waka-Waka 28 62.16
    Söldner 24 49.33
    Armata 23 44.83
    Bloc 17 32.33
    Tugas 14 31
    Bungs 19 30.5
    Wonderland 16 26.83
    Waffles/Windmills 14 20.16
    Rockers 11 13.33
    Thistle 6 9

I will go again with the Armata Brancaleone and the Waka-Waka, who are determined not to fall short this year

    *Very* preliminary lineups:
    Armata
    DF: Di Lorenzo, Dimarco, Biraghi
MF: Lo. Pellegrini, Zaccagni, Barella, Zaniolo, Frattesi
    FW: Immobile(c), Belotti, Scamacca, Politano

    This is great, thanks!

As long as they don't change their templating engine too much from year
to year this is relatively easy™ to set up.

Need to automate the scraping of the match pages to make it completely painless.

hasm> Still need to enter the list of matches

    All in, semi-manually.

    hasm> https://www.silvado.com/rss/use_the_nt/2024/

All teams seem to be in.

If the scraping was done correctly, there is a total of 2762 players
from 110 countries in the database. List of players per country,
ordered from country with the most to the least number of players below
(better viewed with a fixed point font).

Because there are some strapping lads in the Spain team now, and anyway
I am not sure too many RSSers remember Benny's dismissive comment about
generic (was it?) midgets in Spain's midfield. Just about the time Spain
and Barca started winning everything, I think.

I will try to to think of another name. Maybe Siglo de Oro ? The 21st
century has after all been a bit of a golden age for Spain and Spanish
teams. 2 Euros and a nations' league, 1 WC, 11 Champions' leagues, 12
UEFA Cups/Europa Leagues, plus substantial involvement in CL wins by
clubs in other countries (eg. Alonso, Luis Garcia, Azpilicueta, Rodri,
    Thiago, Javi Martinez, Mata.

If I'm reading my historical maps correctly, an Austro-Hungarian team would get to have all of Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Czech Republic and Slovakia; and parts of Italy, Serbia, Montenegro, Romania, Ukraine and Poland.

A team consisting of the former group would be an interesting choice, and potentially a contender for the UtN crown. But you would have to see if Werner is willing to give up the Austrian half of his Alpine Wonderland...

A team consisting of the former group would be an interesting choice, and potentially a contender for the UtN crown. But you would have to see if Werner is willing to give up the Austrian half of his Alpine Wonderland...
Both the Brexit Bungs and the Alpine Wonderland have grown on me.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Binder could still take Hungary + the other countries included entirely in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, *excluding* Austria. The
Orphaned Dual Monarchs, or something like that...

    That would be 'Transleithania' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lands_of_the_Crown_of_Saint_Stephen

which consisted of the entirety of today's Hungary and Slovakia, Transylvania and Banat (plus adjacent territories) in Romania, Croatia minus Dalmatia, Serbia's
Vojvodina region, a small part of Ukraine around Uzhhorod, and Burgenland, the easternmost of Austria's provinces (but I think that would only yield Union Berlin's
Christopher Trimmel). Bosnia-Herzegovina wasn't officially part of either half of the monarchy.

    Ciao,
    Werner

European Cups group stage starts next week, time to start thinking of your Use the NT teams:

Here are the rules, copied from last year:

    - Before each European match day, pick 12 players eligible to play for one national team (or a group of national teams). No more than 5 forwards, no fewer than three defenders. Select a captain. Every goal scored by one of your Players is worth one point, every goal scored by your captain is worth 2
points. Your total score is equal to the total number of goals, plus a Formula
1-style Bonus for placement within the round.

Submit your teams before kickoff of the first leg (two early games on Tuesday, September 6).

What were these two early games ? Can't find them. Also your post was
date September 11, so I assume the September 6 is a hangover from last
    year.

Last year there's been some tournament or other in December that made everything start a week earlier.

Bungs and Wonderland are officially in, preliminary line-ups will follow later.

    Ciao,
    Werner
