    For those who followed rec.scuba since the Usenet days, the world and diving has lost one of the great ones.

    Doug 'Popeye' Frederick passed away on 27 July 2020. His health had been failing for a while, and he died at a hospital in New Mexico where he'd spent the last several years working on an historic narrow gauge railroad.
