I am a relatively new runner and have been running in Asics shoes up
until now. This past Saturday I purchased a pair of Nike Air Max for

On Sunday a woke up with much pain in the muscles along side of my
shins. Is this condition shin splints or just muscle soreness? I
have never experienced shin pain with my other shoes.
Has anyone else ever had new shoes give them shin splints? Is
this just a matter of me getting used to the shoe?
I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience.
What is the reputation of the Nike Air Max? Has this shoe caused
    anyone problems?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
you replied to a VERY old post, but to keep things going, I'll chime in.

I encountered similar symptoms several years ago. Saucony shoes caused me
shin pain if I ran over 5miles in them. They were great at shorter distances, so
I wore them out on 5K races.

Shoes have changed a lot since then. New brands have co0me up and different structures for older brands like Nike. Saucony.

Recently I've used Altra's and this year I'm using Asics.

One key bit of advice I follow: If the shoes don't fit in the store, don't buy them.
Shoes do not get "broken in", what really happens is your feet adapt. And
they may not adapt in a nice way!

    Enjoy the run,
    Ed
