WTMD Promotes Carrie Evans To Program Director

    Posted: 09 Jun 2022 06:10 AM PDT https://radioinsight.com/headlines/228037/wtmd-promotes-carrie-evans-to-program-director/

Your Public Radio AAA 89.7 WTMD Towson/Baltimore MD has announced the
promotion of Carrie Evans to Program Director.

Evans has been serving as Interim PD since the exit of former GM/PD Scott Mullins last November following the completion of the acquisition of WTMD.
She originally joined the station in 2019 as afternoon host after
previously serving as MD/midday host at Empire Broadcasting AAA 103.1
    WRNR-FM Grasonville/Annapolis.

Public service broadcaster Your Public Radio announced that it has promoted Carrie Evans to the position of program director of the Adult Album
Alternative music discovery station WTMD 89.7 FM. Evans has served as the interim program director since the sale of WTMD to Your Public Radio was finalized in November 2021. With this promotion, Evans becomes one of only
a handful of female program directors at the more than 50 AAA stations
    across the country.

As program director, Evans is responsible for the overall sound and quality
of WTMD’s non-commercial radio and digital services. This includes supervising the on-air hosts and music programming staff, ensuring the
format is successfully implemented and audience-focused and collaborating
with other departments to help achieve audience, revenue and organizational goals. One of the first priorities for Evans is to work with Paragon Media Strategies to target and focus the WTMD music playlist to super-serve
audiences in the Greater Baltimore area.

“We could not have found a bigger fan of the format and champion for local Baltimore musicians and artists. Carrie has been a stabilizing force for
the station during a protracted period of transition and is the right
person to lead WTMD’s talented hosts and programming team to new heights,” said Your Public Radio’s President LaFontaine E. Oliver.

In keeping with WTMD’s mission to be more than a radio station, Evans is
one of the primary faces of WTMD in the community; and she will lead
efforts to create opportunities for audiences to deepen their connection to local music and the arts – online, on the air and in neighborhoods
    throughout Baltimore and Central Maryland.

Prior to serving as interim program director, Evans served as WTMD’s assistant program director and afternoon drivetime host—a role which she
will continue. Previously, Evans was the midday host and music director at
    WRNR in Annapolis.

as KLEY-FM rimshots San Antonio from the south. It also marks the third
format on the 103.3 translator this year. Alpha swapped its Hip Hop and
Sports translator signals on February 1, the 103.3 became redundant with

    Posted: 08 Jun 2022 04:46 PM PDT https://radioinsight.com/headlines/227954/iheartmedia-initiates-round-of-layoffs/

A round of layoffs are underway at iHeartMedia this week.

Sources tell us that revenue projections for the rest of the year are
trending downward, which is leading to this round of cutbacks at iHearts
local station operations as the company sets their budgets for the rest of
the year. We are told the cuts are going to be made over a multiple day
period, much like the companys last round of layoffs in the fall of 2020.
So far we have heard of dismissals from programming, on-air, and digital departments across the country.

Among the departures that have gone public so far are:
    Boston

Lance Houston exits as Program Director of Country 101.7 The Bull WBWL. The Atlanta based Houston was also a member of the National Programming Team
and had previously programmed WPOC Baltimore and WEBG Chicago and had a previous six year stint programming WBWL and two tenures on-air at WUBL
Atlanta during his fifteen year run with the company.
    Chicago

Bart Shore departs as a traffic reporter for Total Traffic Weather Network
and weekend host at AC 93.9 Lite-FM WLIT. Shore previously spent seventeen years as a traffic reporter for News 780 WBBM and earlier in his career programmed KRNA Iowa City.

Jordan ‘JRDN’ Foster is out as night host at CHR 103.5 Kiss-FM WKSC. JRDN joined Kiss-FM in 2015 and was promoted from overnights and fill-ins to
    evening host in October 2019.
    Tampa

Mychal Maguire departs as Program Director at Hip Hop 95.7 The Beat WBTP
after seven years. Maguire previously served as SVP/Programming for iHeart Montgomery AL, Director of Urban Programming in Maco and PD of WPHH
Hartford for the company. He has also worked in Shreveport, Charleston and Killeen TX.

KERA's Takeover Of WRR Management Approved

    Posted: 08 Jun 2022 01:00 PM PDT https://radioinsight.com/headlines/225697/kera-awaiting-approval-to-take-over-management-of-wrr/

The Dallas City Council unanimously appoved the proposal for North Texas
Public Broadcastings KERA to take over management of Classical 101.1 WRR
    from the city of Dallas.

KERA will retain WRRs Classical format and continue to operate it from its
Fair Park studios in South Dallas for the next seven years. The takeover of WRRs management by KERA is expected to take effect by the end of the year.

The Dallas City Council unanimously approved on Wednesday, June 8 an
agreement between KERA and the City of Dallas’ Office of Arts and Culture
to manage Dallas-based classical music station WRR 101.1 FM.

“We are so thrilled with the outcome of today’s vote,” says Nico Leone, KERA’s President CEO. “Throughout the procurement process, KERA’s highest
priority has been to ensure North Texas has equitable access to classical
music and the arts. We now look forward to working with WRR on that shared goal, and expanding on their incredible 101-year history.”

“The Office of Arts and Culture is excited about this new partnership to continue free classical music to thousands of listeners each week and to
create new resources for Dallas-based artists and arts organizations,” said Benjamin Espino, interim Director of the Office of Arts and Culture for the City of Dallas. “This kind of sustainable partnership with KERA to advance equity and communications was a key goal of the 2018 Dallas Cultural Plan.
We are proud to continue growing the presence of the arts in Dallas through partnerships like this.”

KERA’s management agreement ensures WRR remains a locally programmed classical station, operated by KERA and owned by the City of Dallas.
Keeping WRR a classical station is not only a requirement of the City’s RFP — it is KERA’s explicit goal. The agreement also ensures WRR will continue to operate out of its Fair Park studios in South Dallas for the next seven years.

KERA is an ideal management partner to help WRR grow its audience, keep up
with industry and technology trends, and ensure audiences receive the highest-quality classical music programming possible. For more than 60
years, KERA has served the people of North Texas with the best in public broadcasting programming. And like WRR, KERA has a longstanding legacy of supporting the arts in North Texas — from in-depth arts reporting on 90.1 KERA News and ArtSeek, to inspiring performances on KERA TV and 91.7 KXT. Additionally, KERA reaches more than 2.6 million people each week through
its public service platforms and broadcast channels. That coverage is also shared statewide through The Texas Newsroom, and nationally on NPR.

At the core of KERA’s mission is its commitment to sharing multiple perspectives and celebrating and reflecting the diversity of our region — a commitment that will be extended into the station’s management of WRR.

KERA is expected to assume management of WRR by the end of the calendar
    year.

Original Report 5/13: North Texas Public Broadcastings KERA is awaiting
final votes to take over management of Classical 101.1 WRR from the city of Dallas.

Should the contract be approved on Monday, May 16 by the citys Quality of
Life, Arts and Culture Committee and then by the city council in June, KERA will add WRRs operations to its KERA-TV, Public News/Talk 90.1 KERA-FM, and
AAA 91.7 KXT KKXT. The agreement would require WRR to keep operating out of
its studios on the grounds of the State Fair of Texas for the next seven
    years.

KERA and the City of Dallas, Office of Arts and Culture are in the final confirmation process of a management agreement for Dallas-based classical
music station WRR 101.1 FM — the first licensed broadcast station in Texas and one of the nation’s oldest operating radio stations. KERA has
submitted a proposal in an open procurement process and has finalized a contract with the City. The proposed contract will go to the Dallas City Council for approval.

The management agreement ensures WRR remains a locally programmed classical station, operated by KERA and owned by the City of Dallas. Keeping WRR a classical station is not only a requirement of the City’s RFP — it is KERA’s explicit goal. The agreement also ensures WRR will continue to operate out of its Fair Park studios in South Dallas for the next seven
    years.

“KERA is honored to be considered to manage WRR and deepen its commitment
to classical music,” says Nico Leone, President CEO of KERA. “Together we can help WRR grow and serve diverse audiences in Dallas and across North Texas, ensuring WRR’s sustainability for generations to come. And given
our own commitment to arts and culture, and our strong partnerships both locally and nationally, KERA is well positioned to build on the success
that WRR has achieved in its incredible 101-year history.”

“WRR is a beloved station in the Dallas and North Texas community,” says Sylvia Komatsu, Chief Content and Diversity Officer of KERA. “We are
thrilled at the opportunity to deepen our shared commitment to the arts and classical music in North Texas, and together engage with previously underrepresented communities in the classical space.”

At the core of KERA’s mission is its commitment to sharing multiple perspectives and celebrating and reflecting the diversity of our region —
a commitment that would be extended into the station’s management of WRR. Already, KERA’s ArtSeek calendar represents more than 4,000 arts groups
and venues, providing exposure to diverse organizations of all sizes
    across the region.

Together, WRR and KERA will continue in their shared goal of expanding arts
and classical music programming in North Texas and beyond.
