Jim Rome Show Gets Mightier In San Diego

    Posted: 02 Jun 2022 04:22 PM PDT https://radioinsight.com/headlines/227459/jim-rome-show-gets-mightier-in-san-diego/

Out The Window Advertising Sports “The Mightier 1090” XEPRS Tijuana/San Diego has added the Jim Rome Show to its daily lineup.

Rome, whose rise to national prominence began in the market at the former Mighty 690 XETRA, had been off the air in the region since Audacys 97.3 The
Fan KWFN dropped his show from its daily lineup in February. At XEPRS,
Romes CBS Sports Radio show will be heard live from 12-3pm. To make room,
Arash Markazi moves from the 12 hour to 7pm and Coast to Coast with Scott Ferrall moves from 1-3pm to 8-9pm.

The Jim Rome Show, the longest running nationally syndicated long-form
sports talk program in America, is returning to San Diego and Southern California at its new home, The Mightier 1090 ESPN Radio, starting today.
The show will air from 12-3 p.m. PT daily.

“You know the saying, “You can never go home again.”? Lie. I’m calling B.S.
on that. You can. And I am! And I am hyped beyond belief for the
opportunity. The Mightier 1090 ESPN Radio is getting after it on the daily
in San Diego and when Bill Hagen and Scott Kaplan asked me if I wanted to
be part of this, I asked, “When the hell do we start?!” San Diego is where the Jungle really took hold. It’s where I met my wife. And where I experienced some of the greatest moments of my entire life. There is no
better town, no better market and you absolutely CAN go home. And that’s
what I plan on doing. And I can’t wait. Let’s do this!” said Jim Rome.

“If there’s any market where The Jim Rome Show belongs in this country, it’s right here where it all started in San Diego and Southern California,” said Bill Hagen of The Mightier 1090 ESPN Radio. “When it comes to Jim
Rome, you’re talking about one of the most iconic hosts in sports talk
radio history and for “Clones” throughout Southern California there’s no better fit for The Jim Rome Show than right here at The Mightier 1090 ESPN Radio.”

Rome has long been one of the most popular and consistent voices on radio.
He began his sports talk radio career in the early 1990s as a weeknight
host at San Diego’s all-sports station, XTRA Sports 690, the predecessor to The Mightier 1090. Early on, the show was nicknamed “The Jungle” by Rome and his loyal listeners. The Jungle later moved to middays in San Diego and Southern California and became known as The Jim Rome Show. It was first syndicated in 1996 from XTRA Sports 690.

The Jim Rome Show has been off the air in San Diego since February 2022.
Its new home, The Mightier 1090 ESPN Radio, is Southern California’s newest ESPN-Radio affiliated station. It has one of the strongest signals in North America with the ability to reach more than 24 million California residents from Baja to San Diego and up to Orange County, Los Angeles and the Central Coast. The 1090 AM broadcast signal has been active for more than 80 years.

An inductee into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2019, The Jim Rome Show is heard
on more than 300 stations in North America. Throughout his daily three-hour show, Rome welcomes his loyal fans, known as Clones, to The Jungle, where
he offers his views on the day’s latest sports headlines and interviews players, coaches, and prominent figures from across the world of sports.

A highly respected voice in the world of sports broadcasting, Rome is one
of the leading opinion-makers of his generation. Best known for his
aggressive, informed, rapid-fire dialogue, Rome has established himself as
the top choice of athletes and fans for sports news and commentary beyond
the scoreboard. In addition to his radio hosting role, Rome also serves as
a commentator for the “NFL on CBS,” and he provides analysis and coverage for CBS Sports and CBSSports.com.

In addition to his extensive sports broadcasting career, Rome has made
cameo appearances in several movies, including a role alongside Al Pacino
and Matthew McConaughey in “Two For The Money,” another alongside Adam Sandler in “The Longest Yard,” and one opposite Michael Jordan in “Space Jam.” Rome also appeared in a Blink 182 music video and on HBO’s series Arliss. He released “Welcome to the Jungle,” a CD featuring memorable sound bites from frequent callers and the hip music regularly played on his radio show.

MediaCo Adult RB 107.5 WBLS New York has declined to renew the contract of longtime midday host Shaila Scott.

As a native New Yorker, it has been a pleasure to be your radio relative,
and I am humbled to have been rewarded with consecutive #1 rankings in the

A deal between two established operators in Santa Rosa CA will see Amaturo Sonoma Media acquire AC 100.1 KZST Santa Rosa and Classic Hits 102.7 The
Wolf KWVF Guerneville from Redwood Empire Stereocasters for an undisclosed amount.

The Lawrence Amaturo and Michael OShea led company will add the two
stations to a cluster that includes Country Froggy 92.9 KFGY, Classic Rock
97.7 The River KVRV, CHR Hot 101.7 KHTH, Classic Hits 107.9 K-Hits K300AO,
and News/Talk 1350 KSRO/96.9 K245DJ/103.5 K278CD. An LMA will take effect before closing. Amaturo Sonoma Media sold 104.9 KDHT to Northern California Public Media last year.

The deal will leave Gordon Zlots company with Country 93.7 The Bull KBBL
and Standards Jazzy 99.1 K256DA. The company also owns 106.3 KJZY, which
was leased to Educational Media Foundation in March.

Amaturo Sonoma Media Group (“ASMG”) and Redwood Empire Stereocasters (“RES”) announced today that ASMG will acquire two RES stations, KZST-FM and KWVF-FM, and other assets, in a sale expected to close in 3rd Quarter
of this year. A Local Market Agreement (LMA), effective June 2, 2022, will permit ASMG to begin the operational obligations prior to FCC approval and closing.

Redwood Empire Stereocasters will continue to own and operate their
stations KJZY, 106.3 FM and KBBL, 93.7 FM.

Lawrence Amaturo, co-founder and member manager of ASMG, LLC, commented: “With incredible care, Gordon Zlot created and developed KZST over 50 years ago and made it THE most listened-to station in Sonoma County. It remains
just that even today. I am beyond thrilled that we can be the next
torch-bearer for this great community gift.”

Gordon Zlot, founder and 50-year patriarch of KZST and the RES stations,
said: “This was an agonizing decision, with over a half century of creating and maintaining KZST with rating superiority in Sonoma County, but in my decision to step-back in pace and work-life, I could not have found a
better next-level operator-team than Lawrence Amaturo and Michael O’Shea. I will still be associated with all the stations, offering engineering and programming consultation, and pulling for them to the next level of
    success.”

Michael O’Shea, President of ASMG added: “I’m truly in awe of these great stations and the position they occupy in the hearts and ears of Sonoma
County, and the brilliant leadership Gordon and his team have brought them, making radio so vital in the Northbay. I’m humbled at the thought of operating this combined great enterprise.”
