Butte County, Calif., Implements Alert FM

The northern California county where a blaze called the Camp Fire caused
such devastation four years ago has implemented an Alert FM system from
Global Security Systems.

The notification system is now operational in Butte County.

Alert FM is intended to provide alerts for earthquake, tornado, hurricane,
fire and other situations where early warning is important. It delivers
alerts based on zone/polygon data from emergency officials, using the FM broadcasting infrastructure as its backbone.

“This platform provides multiple redundant backup FM radio transmitters connected by satellite to provide a secure transmission of a single point-to-multipoint messaging path, layered by ‘need to know’ groupings without utility power, cellular and internet point-of-failure
vulnerabilities of other alerting systems,” GSS stated.

“Alert FM fills gaps for alerting where other solutions cannot deliver alerting to inaccessible cellular coverage areas and off-grid communities.”

Sheriff Kory Honea of the Butte County Sheriff’s Office was quoted in the announcement saying Alert FM “adds another tool in our toolbox to notify citizens and takes advantage of our zone alert strategy and provide a layer that works when cell, internet or power is not available.”

The text-based emergency notification system delivers encrypted polygon and group-based alerts to residents, schools, hospitals, commercial and
industrial facilities. The company said these alerts give people time to
take protective action.

GSS also quoted Dino Corbin, general manager and partner of Deer Creek Broadcasting, as expressing its involvement and support for the RDS-based system.

Jessica Casano-Antonellis Joins SiriusXM as Head of Communications

Jessica Casano-Antonellis has joined SiriusXM as senior vice president and
head of communications.

Reporting to Chief Marketing Officer Denise Karkos, she will be responsible
for all of the company’s communications, including strategic
communications, brand reputation management and media relations.

Karkos said Casano-Antonellis will bring a wealth of strategic
communications experience to the role.

“She will be an incredible asset to the company and will play a key role as we continue to tell the story of SiriusXM as a leader in audio
entertainment, said Karkos.

Jessica joins SiriusXM from The Walt Disney Company, where she had a significant role in the company’s pivot to streaming, first with the launch of ESPN+ in 2018, followed by Disney+ in 2019.

“After more than four fulfilling and busy years leading communications for The Walt Disney Company’s portfolio of streaming services, I’m excited to begin this next adventure working with Denise, CEO Jennifer Witz, and the
rest of the leadership team at SiriusXM,” said Casano-Antonellis.

Before joining Disney, Casano-Antonellis headed global communications for
the video sharing platform, Vimeo. Prior to Vimeo, she spent nearly 10
years on the agency side at Text100/Archetype, a global technology public relations firm.

Casano-Antonellis succeeds Patrick Reilly, senior vice president of
corporate communications and PR, who is set to leave SiriusXM after 17
years. Reilly will stay with the company through July to help with the transition, according to a SiriusXM press release.

“Patrick has been a valuable member of my leadership team and we thank him for his dedication to the company and to his craft.” said Kakos.
