    From rec.radio.info Moderation Team@21:1/5 to All on Sun Oct 24 12:35:29 2021
    XPost: alt.radio.broadcasting

Word has reached the rec.radio.info moderation team that long-time
moderated Usenet newsgroup rec.radio.broadcasting is now going inactive.
The remaining moderation team has decided not to renew the account at
Panix due to low newsgroup activity and their belief that Usenet is
obsolete. The account will be permanently shut down next month and no
new articles will be approved after that.

One of the longest-running moderated newsgroups on Usenet, rec.radio.broadcasting was created in 1992, preceding rec.radio.info by
a year. It was the the creation of broadcasting enthusiast and expert
William Pfeiffer, who moderated the newsgroup until his untimely death
in 1999. The newsgroup was continued by at least 3 more teams of
moderators until participation eventually tailed off, and was arguably
replaced by other forums on the Web, including Reddit and Facebook.

The newsgroup will continue to approve submissions until the end of the
month. Please consider participating in one of several active
    discussion threads before then:

Probably one of the classiest signoffs of a radio station that was going
off the air indefinitely, due to a license sale and change of format,
was WHFS ("High Fidelity Stereo") from Washington, DC in 1983. The last
    hour is available on YouTube:

Just the last few minutes, with the final signoff identification and a
parting song, Velvet Underground drummer Maureen (Moe) Tucker singing
    "After Hours," are at:

Merry Christmas, Bill Pfeiffer, wherever you are.
