    We begin the bulletin with news of five silent keys.

    It is with regret that we announce the keys of Jan Jordaan ZS3JAN, Jerry
    De Ru, ZS6JDR, Danie Potgieter, ZS6AXX, Joffre Papenfus, ZS3EY
    and Charly du Pont, ZS5DU have gone silent.

    Jan passed away on Saturday 27 February, while Jerry passed away on Tues
    day 1 June and Danie on Saturday 5 June. Joffre passed away on Thursday 10
    June and his wife passed away on Wednesday 2 June. Charly passed away on
    Friday 11 June 2021.

    We extend our sincere condolences to the families and friends of these rad
    io amateurs.

    THE HAMMIES SPRINT THIS AFTERNOON

    The Hammies Sprint is a fun activity to promote contacts between Hammies a
    nd radio amateurs in Southern African countries with an emphasis on ZU sta tions and runs from 14:00 to 15:00 UTC (16:00 to 17:00 CAT) this afternoon
    , Sunday 13 June 2021. The exchange is RS and provincial abbreviation,
    DX for all stations outside South Africa and the QSY rules for Sprints ap
    ply. It is a phone contest on the 40-metre band. Logs, in ADIF, Cabril
    lo or MS Excel format shall be submitted by 23:59 CAT on Friday 18 June 20
    21 and sent by e-mail to chairman@zs6zu.org.za (mailto:chairman@zs6zu.org.

    KYRGYZSTAN LATEST TO ARRIVE ON 60 M

    Paul Gaskell, G4MWO reports that the Union of Radio Amateurs of Kyrgyz R epublic (ARUKR) has announced on 4 June 2021 that the Kyrgyzstan Telecommu nications Regulator made the new WRC-15 Amateur Secondary Allocation of 5
    351.5 - 5 366.5 kHz available to Kyrgyz amateurs at a maximum pow
    er of 100 W. Other Secondary allocations made available at the same time w
    ere 472 - 479 kHz at 1 W, 122,25 - 123 GHz and 134 - 141 GHz both at 1
    00 W.

    VOORTREKKERS USING SPECIAL EVENT CALL SIGN

    In celebration of the Voortrekker Movement's 90th anniversary, a special
    event call sign, ZS90VTK, has been issued. The call sign will be acti
    vated on 16 June 2021, Youth Day, from the roof of the Voortrekker Mon
    ument. The bands to be used are 40 and 20 metres as well as 2 metres. The
    Voortrekkers in Namibia will operate under the call sign, V55JAM. All r
    adio amateurs, Voortrekkers, Scouts and Guides are invited to contact
    the respective call signs. For the remainder of the year, special trans missions will made from various monuments in Sout Africa and a special QSL

    IARU REGION 1 WORKSHOP

    The Region 1 Workshop was held yesterday 12 June on the Zoom platform. Mem
    bers Societies were tasked at the April Workshop to do a SWOT analysis and
    yesterday the feedback was given. South Africa, Serbia, Tunisia and S
    pain were asked to prepare a 10 minute slide show of their SWOT analysis a
    nd present it at the Workshop. More information in next week's bul
    letin.

    NEXT GENERATION BEACON FUND TOPS R18 000

    The SARL Next Generation beacon fund administered by AMSAT SA topped the R
    18 000 mark and currently stands at R18 150. Full details of how to contri
    bute to this crowd funding initiative can be found on www.amsatsa.org.za i ncluding links to the Payfast credit card platform to make a R50, R250 o
    r R1 000 contribution and a list of contributors acknowledging their suppo
    rt.

    TWO INTERNATIONAL SPEAKERS AT THE AMSAT SA SPACE SYMPOSIUM

    AMSAT SA has announced that the 2021 Space Symposium will be held from 10:
    00 - 15:00 CAT on Saturday 10 July 2021 on the BlueJeans platform. The hea
    d of HamSCI, Dr Nathaniel A. Frissell, W2NAF and Burns Fisher, WB1FJ
    of AMSAT NA are two of the international speakers who will be presenting
    papers at the symposium. The AfriCube Team will showcase some of the inte resting new developments. The symposium attendance is free for members of
    AMSAT SA and the SARL. Leaners and students on submission of their studen
    t number or school details will also attend free. Registration is however
    required. Full details on how to register can be found on www.amsatsa.org
    .za. More details will be announced soon.

    CONTEST NEWS

    The SARL Youth Sprint on 16 June. This is a fun activity to celebrate the
    Youth and to promote contacts between young radio amateurs in Southern Af rican countries. Call "CQ Youth Sprint!" The first leg tak
    es place from 12:00 to 13:00 UTC (14:00 to 15:00 CAT) on Wednesday 16 June
    2021. The exchange is a RS(T) report and the operator's age and t
    he QSY rules for Sprints apply. Logs in ADIF, Cabrillo or MS Excel must
    be submitted by 23:59 CAT on Monday 21 June 2021 by e-mail to zs3vdk@webm ail.co.za (mailto:zs3vdk@webmail.co.za) . The age of the operator must be
    shown on the summary sheet.

    The third leg of the SARL 40 m Grid Square Club Sprint runs from 12:00 to
    13:00 UTC (14:00 to 15:00 CAT) on Saturday 19 June with phone and CW acti vity.The exchange is a RS or RST report, the name of your Club and your
    4 character grid square. You score 2 points for each QSO, 2 points for
    each new grid square and 1 point for each new Club. Log sheets in MS Exce
    l format shall be submitted by 23:59 CAT on Thursday 24 June by e-mail to

    CLUB NEWS

    ZS4BFN from the Franklin Game Reserve. The Franklin Game Reserve (ZSFF-012
    7) is located on Naval Hill in the centre of Bloemfontein and is the only
    game reserve to be found in the middle of a city. On Wednesday 16 June,
    the Friends of Franklin will be painting the well-known White Horse on th
    e eastern side of Naval Hill as well as the BLOEMFONTEIN sign near the pla netarium. Both of these were made by the British soldiers stationed on Nav
    al Hill during the Anglo-Boer War. ZS4BFN will be on the air from 09:00 CA
    T on 16 June operating on 40 and 20 metres as well as 2 metres from the Fr anklin Game Reserve.

    The Johannesburg Amateur Radio Club is inviting all prospective RAE candid ate's country wide to contact the Club by e-mail at zs6tjclub@gmai
    l.com (mailto:zs6tjclub@gmail.com) The Club intends to provide online RAE
    classes on a weekly basis for students that are unable to attend their lo
    cal Club for training, provided enough interest is shown. Either the cha
    irman Kobie van Zyl, ZS6KVZ or the RAE-Coordinator Graham McNally, ZS6
    GPM will contact you individually to discuss your specific requirements.

    The next Johannesburg Amateur Radio Club Committee meeting will be convene

    PROPAGATION REPORT

    Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP, reports that the solar activity is expected to
    be at low levels. There are currently two sunspot regions with simple mag netic configurations visible and minor solar flaring activity is possible.
    If you want to do your own frequency predictions, the expected effectiv
    e sunspot number for the week will be around three. The 17 to 30 m bands w
    ill at sunrise and especially during the late afternoons, provide some D

    nning van 5 351,5 - 5 366,5 kHz beskikbaar stel aan Kirgiese amateurs
    met maksimum krag van 100 W. Ander sekondêre toewysings wat terselfd
    ertyd beskikbaar gestel is, was 472 - 479 kHz teen 1 W, 122,25 - 123
    GHz en 134 - 141 GHz albei teen 100 W.

    VOORTREKKERS GEBRUIK SPESIALE GEBEURTENIS ROEPSEIN OP 16 JUNIE

    Ter viering van die Voortrekkerbeweging se 90ste bestaansjaar is 'n spesia
    le roepsein, ZS90VTK, uitgereik. Die roepsein word op 16 Junie 2021,
    Jeugdag, vanaf die dak van die Voortrekkermonument geaktiveer. Die band
    e wat gebruik sal word is 40 en 20 meter sowel as 2 meter. Die Voortrekker
    s in Namibië sal onder die roepsein V55JAM funksioneer. Alle radio am
    ateurs, Voortrekkers, Verkenners en Gidse word uitgenooi om die onders

    IARU STREEK 1 WERKSWINKEL

    AMSAT SA het aangekondig dat die 2021-Ruimtesimposium van 10:00 tot 15:00
    SAT op Saterdag 10 Julie 2021 op die BlueJeans-platform gehou word. Die h
    oof van HamSCI, dr Nathaniel A. Frissell, W2NAF en Burns Fisher, WB1
    FJ van AMSAT NA, is twee van die internasionale sprekers wat referate ty
    dens die simposium sal aanbied. Die AfriCube-span sal enkele interessante
    nuwe ontwikkelings ten toon stel. Die bywoning van die simposium is grati

    Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP, berig dat die verwagte sonaktiwiteitsvlak laag
    gaan wees. Tans is daar twee sonvlekgroepe met eenvoudige magnetiese same stellings sigbaar en daar kan geringe sonfakkelaktiwiteit voorkom. Diegene
    wat hulle eie frekwensievoorspellings wil doen, kan 'n verwagte effekti
    ewe sonvlektelling van drie vir die week gebruik. Radio amateurs kan veral
    met sonsopkoms en laatmiddag DX openinge op die 17 tot 30 m bande verwag.
