We start the bulletin with the news of a silent key.

It is with deep regret that we announce that the key of Barry Nugent, ZS
2NF of Uniondale went silent on Sunday 18 April 2021 after battling a long
illness. Barry was a true gentleman. We extend our sincere condolences to
his wife Colleen, family and friends.

It is with deep regret that we announce that the key of Laurie Devereux,
ZS5DL went silent on Saturday 24 April 2021. Laurie had served on the SAR
L Council for many years and was part of the Amateur Radio Today team for
a number of years. He also served on the committees of the Durban and Hig
hway Clubs. We extend our sincere condolences to his daughter Jess, fami
ly and friends.

ELECTRONIC VOTING FOR THE 2021 SARL AGM MOTIONS

The voting for the 2021 AGM Motions opened at 00:01 CAT yesterday Saturday
24 April 2021 and will close at 23:59 CAT on Monday 3 May 2021. Go to the
public voting page www.sarl.org.za/Web3/ElectronicVoting/Default.aspx to
cast your vote. You need to click on the box "I confirm that I have read
and fully understand the Motions listed above." Then sign in with your ca
ll sign and password. The voting options for each motion are "Yes" or "No"
or "Abstain." Follow the instructions on the voting page and submit your
vote. You will receive an e-mail confirming that you have voted.

The motions deal with the approval of the minutes of 2019 Annual General M eeting, the unaudited accounts for the period ending 28 February 2021,
the proposed budget for year ending 30 June 2022, the proposed subscrip
tions for year 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2022, the reappointment of the Aud
itors, an additional Membership Category: Family Membership, the revie
wing of the criteria for determining which members may register and vote a
t meetings convened by the SARL and the ratification Councillors elected f
or a new term.

VOTING RESULTS FOR THE ANNUAL FINANCIAL STATEMENTS

At the close of voting on Thursday evening 22 April, 209 votes were cast
, with 202 votes in favour and 7 abstentions. The Annual Financial State
ments for the year ending 30 June 2020 are thus approved.

THE SARL 40 M GRID SQUARE CLUB SPRINT ON FREEDOM DAY

The second leg of the SARL 40 m Grid Square Club Sprint is on the air from
12:00 to 13:00 UTC (14:00 to 15: CAT) on Tuesday 27 April with CW and SSB
activity. The exchange is a RS or RST report, the name of your club and
your 4 character grid square (e.g., KF15). The QSY rules for sprints ap
ply. You earn 2 points for every QSO, 2 points for the first QSO with ea
ch grid square and 1 point for each club worked. Log sheets in MS Excel fo
rmat must be submitted by 23:59 CAT on Sunday 2 May by e-mail to zs4bfn@mw eb.co.za (mailto:zs4bfn@mweb.co.za) . The rules are on page 65 of the Blue
Book.

YOTA ONLINE 29 APRIL 2021

The next Youngsters on the Air (YOTA) Online takes place from 18:00 UTC (2
0:00 CAT) on Thursday 29 April. YOTA say, "In this newest episod
e the team will present the main topic â-˜The end... but a new
beginning!'" This time we will give you some insights on
our recent YOTA Online sessions, talk about our future with this and ot
her upcoming projects. Further, we will focus on the ongoing pandemic pr
oblem and its possibilities.

THE ZS PARKS ON THE AIR ACTIVITY DURING THE HOLIDAYS

This is a fun event to encourage radio amateurs to participate in the Park
s on the Air (POTA) programme. The activity is open to all radio amateurs
and it is not a contest. Southern African Parks on the Air can be found a
t https://sarl.us5.list-manage.com/track/click?u'b05a8cba9589bf8d019e5 d3&idl1a5fb2a7&eœe7bd785b. All activations must be according
to the POTA/WWFF rules. You must make 10 QSOs (44 QSOs for the internatio
nal awards) for your activity to count towards an activator award. The QSO
s can be made over a number of days or visits. The POTA activity is on the
air during the 2021 school holidays and activity is on all amateur bands
and modes. The exchange is a RS, RST or RSQ report and the POTA/WWFF re ference. Submit your log to zs4bfn@mweb.co.za (mailto:zs4bfn@mweb.co.za) a
s soon as possible after the activity. You should send your log in ADIF fo
rmat and please use the following naming convention "CALL @SAFF-0xxx YYYYM MDD.adi." Read more on page 106 of the 2021 Blue Book.

THE ZS SOTA AUTUMN ACTIVITY DAY ON 1 MAY

This is a fun event to encourage radio amateurs to participate in the Summ
its on the Air (SOTA) programme. The activity day is open to all radio ama teurs and runs from 00:00 to 23:59 CAT on Saturday 1 May 2021. All activat
ions must be according to the SOTA rules: Activators must carry their stat
ion, mast and antenna to the summit and may not operate from a building
or vehicle. Chasers may operate from any station. Summits may only be act ivated by each amateur once per calendar year. Club call signs may not be
used. The points for the Summit as determined by the SOTA programme are n
ot used for the score calculations.

Activity is on all amateur bands and modes and the exchange is a RS, RST
or RSQ report and the SOTA reference. You participate as an Activator (pr eferred) or a Chaser. You score 10 Points for each contact made as a chase
r and 10 Points for each contact made as an activator, a Summit to Summi
t contact counts as a chase and an activation. Upload your SOTA log to the
SOTA Database as soon as possible after the Activity Day. The points for
the QSO Party will be calculated by the ZS SOTA Management team from the
logs entered into the SOTA database. Turn to page 104 of the 2021 Blue Bo
ok.

ANTIQUE WIRELESS ASSOCIATION VALVE QSO PARTY ON 1 AND 2 MAY

The aim of the AWA Valve QSO party is to create activity on the 40 and 80
metre bands. It is a phone only contest using AM and SSB. Preferably, v
alve radios or radios with valves in them may be used. No linear amplifier
s may be used. The AM QSO Party runs from 13:00 to 17:00 UTC (15:00 to 19:
00 CAT) Saturday 1 May and the SSB QSO Party from 13:00 to 17:00 UTC (15:0
0 to 19:00 CAT) Sunday 2 May. Activity is on 40 metres: 7 063 kHz to 7 100
kHz and 7 130 kHz to 7 200 kHz and 80 metres: 3 603 kHz to 3 650 kHz. The
exchange is your call sign, a RS report, a consecutive serial number
starting at 001 and the type of radio used, for example, HT37 TX. The
log sheets must be submitted by Friday 7 May 2021 to andyzs6ady@vodamail. co.za (mailto:andyzs6ady@vodamail.co.za) . Certificates will be awarded to
the first three places in each category - AM and SSB.

PROPAGATION REPORT

Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP, reports that the solar activity is expected to
be at low to moderate levels. There are currently two sunspot regions vis ible. Minor C-class or M-class solar flares are expected. If you want to d
o your own frequency predictions, the expected effective sunspot number
for the week will be around twelve. The 10 to 30 m bands will especially
during the late afternoons, provide some good DX fun. Please visit the

Dit is 'n prettige geleentheid om radio amateurs aan te spoor om aan die P
arke op die Lug (POTA) program deel te neem. Die aktiwiteit is oop vir all
e radio amateurs en dit is nie 'n kompetisie nie. Suider-Afrikaanse Parke
op die Lug kan gevind word by https://sarl.us5.list-manage.com/track/clic k?u'b05a8cba9589bf8d019e5d3&idßfba4e8cc&eœe7bd785b. Alle
aktiverings moet volgens die POTA/WWFF-reëls geskied. Jy moet 10 QSO

tot 'n aktiveerder-toekenning te tel. Die QSOs kan oor 'n aantal dae/beso
eke gedoen word. Die POTA-aktiwiteit is gedurende die 2021-skoolvakansie o

DIE ZS SOTA HERFS AKTIWITEIT DAG OP 1 MEI

Dit is 'n prettige geleentheid om radio amateurs aan te moedig om deel te
neem aan die Pieke op die Lug (SOTA) program. Die Aktiwiteits dag is oop
vir alle radio amateurs en duur van 00:00 tot 23:59 SAT op Saterdag 1 Mei
2021. Alle aktiwiteite moet volgens die SOTA-reëls geskied: Aktiveer
ders moet hul stasie, mas en antenna na die kruin dra en mag nie vanaf '
n gebou of voertuig werk nie. Jagters mag vanaf enige stasie werk. Pieke m
ag slegs een keer per kalender jaar deur elke amateur geaktiveer word. Klu
b roepseine mag nie gebruik word nie. Die punte vir die Pieke soos bepaal
deur die SOTA-program word nie gebruik vir die berekeninge van die tellin
gs nie.

Daar is aktiwiteite op alle amateur bande en -modusse en die uit ruil is '
n RS-, RST- of RSQ-verslag en die SOTA-verwysing. Jy neem deel as aktive
erder (verkieslik) of Jagter. Jy behaal 10 punte vir elke kontak wat as ja
er gemaak word en 10 punte vir elke kontak wat as aktiveerder gemaak word
, 'n Piek tot Piek-kontak tel as 'n jaag tog en 'n aktivering. Laai jou
SOTA-logstaat so spoedig moontlik na die Aktiwiteits Dag na die SOTA-data basis. Die punte vir die Dag word deur die ZS SOTA-bestuurspan bereken uit
die logstate wat in die SOTA-databasis op geneem is. Blaai na bladsy 104

ANTIEKE DRAADLOSE VERENIGING BUIS QSO PARTYTJIE OP 1 EN 2 MEI

Die doel van die ADV Buis QSO partytjie is om aktiwiteite op die 40 en 80
meter-bande te skep. Dit is slegs 'n foon kompetisie wat AM en ESB gebrui
k. Buis radios of radios met buise daarin moet verkieslik gebruik word. Ge
en lineêre versterkers mag gebruik word nie. Die AM QSO-partytjie duu
r van 13:00 tot 17:00 UTC (15:00 tot 19:00 SAT) op Saterdag 1 Mei en die E
SB QSO Partytjie van 13:00 tot 17:00 UTC (15:00 tot 19:00 SAT ) op Sondag
2 Mei. Aktiwiteit is op 40 meter: 7 063 tot 7 100 kHz en 7 130 tot 7 200
kHz en 80 meter: 3 603 tot 3 650 kHz. Die om ruiling is jou roepsein, '

die week gebruik. Radio amateurs kan veral laat middag goeie DX openinge
