    THE WORKED ALL ZS CHALLENGE

Where are the WAZS Warriors? Here is a challenge to top your hunt for call
signs for the Worked All ZS Award! Reading through the VHF/UHF and Microw
ave Records dated 15 October 2022, it will be noted that only two radio
amateurs have achieved the WAZS on 6 metres - Hal, ZS6WB in 1997 and Pa
ul, ZS6NK in 2018. Who will be the next radio amateur to achieve a WAZS
on 6 metres? Are you up to the challenge?

AMATEUR RADIO OPERATORS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN SCIENTIFIC EXPERIMENTS

The High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) will be conduct
ing their largest experiment and research campaign from 19 to 28 October 2
    022. Amateur radio operators are invited to listen and participate. The re search will last for 10 days and will include 13 experiments, with trans missions taking place between 14:00 - 06:00 UTC daily. The transmission ex periments include moon bounce, Jupiter bounce, HF ocean scatter and io
nosphere satellite interactions. Amateur radio operators are being asked t
o monitor the times of the transmissions and signal quality. Reports can b
e filed electronically and a special QSL card will be sent for participati
    on.

This will be the most scientifically diverse campaign ever conducted at HA
ARP. Particularly notable experiments include a first-of-its-kind attempt
to bounce a signal off Jupiter, investigation into the possible causes
of the airglow phenomenon known as STEVE (Strong Thermal Emission Velocit
y Enhancement) and the testing of the feasibility of using radio transmiss
ions to measure the interiors of near-earth asteroids.

"The October research campaign is our largest and most diverse to date,
with researchers and citizen scientists collaborating from across the glo
be," said HAARP Program Manager Jessica Matthews. The number of experime
nts is the highest so far under the 5-year 9,3-million-dollar grant, w
hich was awarded last year by the National Science Foundation to establish
the sub-auroral geophysical observatory at HAARP. The observatory's purpo
se is to explore the earth's upper atmosphere and geospace environment.

An overview of all the experiments can be found at the HAARP website at ht tps://sarl.us5.list-manage.com/track/click?u'b05a8cba9589bf8d019e5d3&i d?f92e8aa1&eœe7bd785b. There is a PDF document on the ARRL L
etter for 20 October 2022 page with a more detailed listing of the experim
ents and technical data. Participating amateur radio operators can request
a QSL card and send reception reports to HAARP, PO Box 271, Gakona,
AK 99586 USA. HAARP is a scientific endeavour aimed at studying the prope rties and behaviour of the ionosphere. Operation of the research facility
was transferred from the US Air Force to the University of Alaska Fairban
ks on 11 August 2015, allowing HAARP to continue with the exploration of
ionospheric phenomenology via a land-use cooperative research and develop
    ment agreement.

Jy sal alles hoo

Is j
    y opgewasse vir die uitdaging?

AMATEUR RADIO OPERATEURS GENOOI OM AAN WETENSKAPLIKE EKSPERIMENTE DEEL TE
    NEEM

    https://sarl.us5.list-manage.com/track/click?u'b05a8cba9589bf8d019e5d 3&idæ4faee03d&eœe7bd785b.
