    Greetings Broadcast fans:
    Welcome to rec.radio.broadcasting.

    This is a new forum dedicated to the wide world of domestic
    broadcast radio. First, let me define, for the purposes of this
    group, the term 'domestic'.

    Domestic broadcast radio means radio which is designed for consumption primarily within the city, region or nation from which it
    originates. This as opposed to 'international' or world service radio
    which is primarily designed for reception in other parts of the
    world.

    Domestic radio does NOT mean USA or North American radio, but any
    broadcast service, regardless of it's origination which is primarily
    received in it's own country/region etc.

    Rec.radio.broadcasting is here to fill a void between rec.radio.noncomm
    (r.r.n) and rec.radio.shortwave (r.r.s). Our purpose is to offer a
    forum where individuals with an interest in radio can share
    experiences, ideas, questions, answers and opinions regarding this
    most interesting subject.

    WHO CAN POST? Anyone with an interest in the medium is encouraged
    to post here. This newsgroup is not JUST for mthe radio
    professional, but for anyone who has a desire to participare in the discussions. This may seem overwealmingly obvious, but I say it because
    I have gotten mail asking questions about the newsgroup's target
    audience.

    Rec.radio.broadcasting will endevour to cover ANY topic pertaining
    to domestic radio broadcasting. We do accept cross-posts from other
    groups, if the subject is pertanent. Some subjects which are open
    for discussion are (but not limited to)...

    * Programming & formats
    * Engineering matters
    * Innovations & technology affecting the medium
    (i.e. satellite formats, automation, d.a.b., etc)
    * Network radio, yesterday and today
    * Pirate and clandestine broadcasting
    * Community & low-power broadcast radio
    * Legislation affecting the medium
    * Radio's historical & cultural significance
    * News & political coverage and it's effects.
    * Concerns of smaller market stations
    * Announcements of changes in station facilities
    (i.e new stations, old ones going dark, etc)
    * Differences & similarities between domestic
    radio of different nations
    * Exchanging information for those seeking
    employment in the industry (post your resume's
    and job openings here)

    In short, rec.radio.broadcasting can be a clearinghouse for all
    news, features and communications regarding domestic broadcast
    radio regardless of what frequncy band, power, format or nation of
    origination.

    The only traffic NOT welcome on this forum is ..

    Flame wars and excessive personal attack
    Endless, pointless arguments over "my-personal-opinion-is-gospel"
    type issues, favorite/least favorite musical groups etc.
    Articles not pertaining to radio broadcasting, or those pertaining
    to 'non-broadcast' radio services such as cellular, two-way, etc.

    Other than those few issues, the r.r.b broadcast booth is yours!
    Despite the moderated nature of this forum, you will find out that
    there will be no censorship. I abhor a censors! The only form of
    control I will assert over the articles (other than stated above)
    might be to trim excessive headers and to reduce (when needed)
    the volume of repeatedly quoted text. To avoid this, please only
    quote as much previous text as is ESSENTIAL to make your point. Few
    of us like wading through re-hashed comments of the past 5 posters
    on a given thread :-).

    In addition, if you have a specific area of interest or expertise
    and would like to have a regular 'segment' devoted to your
    subject, let me know.

    If you cant get this group via usenet, and would like it sent via
    e-mail, write to me and put 'subscriptions' in the subject. Please
    only do this if you CAN'T get it the regular way, or are planning to
    move to a site with no news access. Allow some time for the e-mail
    feed to get up and running.

    If you would like to contribute to a FAQ list on this subject, feel
    free to do so. Everyone's input is welcome!

    Posting:

    To post directly, via e-mail, send articles to rrb\@airwaves.chi.il.us .

    For all NON-PUBLICATION traffic, send to wdp\@airwaves.chi.il.us .

    MANY THANKS TO ALL WHO SUPPORTED THE CREATION OF THIUS GROUP!

    We now return you to your regularily scheduled newsgroup :-).
