NAB To Permanently Integrate Fall Radio Show Into Spring NAB Show; 2021
Marconi Awards To Be Held Virtually In November

    Posted: 14 Oct 2021 06:54 AM PDT https://radioinsight.com/headlines/214087/nab-to-permanently-integrate-fall-radio-show-into-spring-nab-show-2021-marconi-awards-to-be-held-virtually-in-november/

The National Association of Broadcasters has announced that it is
permanently making the Radio Show (previously held in the fall of each
year) part of the NAB Show held every April in Las Vegas.

The integrated event in Las Vegas will feature signature awards, networking events and a comprehensive conference program, including popular sales and marketing sessions presented by the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB). The integration was supposed to take place for the recently postponed and
cancelled NAB Show this month, but will now take effect with the next convention scheduled to be held in April 2022.

Ahead of the consolidation, the NAB has also announced that the 2021 NAB Marconi Radio Awards and the final State of the Industry Address to be delivered by outgoing President/CEO Gordon Smith will be held online on November 10 at 2:00pm eastern at https://NAB.org/watch.

The presentation of the 2021 NAB Marconi Radio Awards and the State of the Industry Address by National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) President
and CEO Gordon Smith will take place virtually on November 10, 2021, at
2:00 p.m. EST at NAB.org/watch and will be available on-demand on NAB
Amplify. NAB also announced plans to integrate the Radio Show into NAB Show
on an ongoing basis beginning April 2022 in Las Vegas. This change provides more opportunities in one location for radio professionals and elevates
radio in the larger media ecosystem represented at NAB Show.

The NAB Marconi Radio Awards honor radio stations and on-air personalities
for excellence in broadcasting. NAB will name the winners in each of the 23 categories during the November event, which will be hosted by Angela Yee, co-host of the nationally syndicated morning show, “The Breakfast Club.”

Prior to the awards presentation, Smith will deliver his final State of the Industry address before stepping down as NAB president and CEO at the end
of the year. Smith will reflect on his tenure leading the association and
how the broadcast industry can continue to thrive into the future.

“It has been my great honor to represent America’s broadcasters in Washington D.C. and around the world for the past 12 years,” said Smith,
who will assume an advisory and advocacy role beginning next year. “While I am disappointed we are not able to gather in person in Las Vegas, I look forward to connecting virtually and seeing everyone in-person at the 2022
    NAB Show.”

NAB’s Marconi Radio Awards typically take place as part of the Radio Show. Beginning in April 2022, the Radio Show will be combined with NAB Show. The integrated event in Las Vegas will feature signature awards, networking
events and a comprehensive conference program, including popular sales and marketing sessions presented by the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB).

“It’s important that we continue to bring radio professionals together to network, celebrate audio and engage in meaningful discussions around the
future of our industry,” said Erica Farber, president and CEO of the RAB.

From radio CEOs and general managers to sales managers, program directors
and engineers, attendees will benefit from access to the NAB Show Floor
with more than 160 radio and audio exhibits, Main Stage events and options
for expanded registration packages that include the Broadcast Engineering
and IT conference, workshops for creative professionals, special events and more.

“In today’s world where radio companies are essentially multimedia companies, the value in attending NAB Show cannot be overstated,” said
David Santrella, president of Broadcast Media at Salem Media Group and NAB joint board chair. “We are now streaming and podcasting and even producing video. NAB Show provides unparalleled access to the critical tools,
knowledge and connections we need to grow and thrive in today’s media business.”

SiriusXMs Pandora has announced it is launching U2’s Artist Takeover on Pandora with the band creating a series of self-curated Modes focusing on
each of their first three albums.

The modes will feature U2 sharing personal insights and influences behind
each record in their own words. The launch features commentary from Boy (1980), October (1981) and War (1983), with other albums set to be added in the future.

October 2021 marks 40 years of U2’s seminal album, October, and to celebrate, the rock legends have today announced the launch of the
    biggest-ever Artist Takeover on Pandora.

U2’s Artist Takeover on Pandora is an exclusive listening experience where members of the iconic group take fans on a personal journey through the
making of their first three albums which include Boy (1980), October (1981) and War (1983) sharing intimate personal stories, previously unknown details, and the music that inspired
    them along the way.

On U2’s Artist Takeover Modes on Pandora, band members share never-before-heard stories behind the making of each album, delve deep into
the creation and recording of pivotal tracks, and share classic songs from
the artists who influenced and inspired them, from The Ramones to John
Lennon to David Bowie – all in one unique listening experience.

“Pandora has given us an opportunity to tell U2’s story in a completely new way, weaving the music of our heroes together with our own using songs, memories, and inspirations,” said U2 guitarist The Edge. “Music is the most
powerful storytelling medium, and Modes has created an incredible new way
to share the sounds and experiences that made us who we are as artists.”

“Few bands have been as consistently innovative, passionate, and riveting
as U2, who are constantly evolving and yet still at the top of their game decades on,” said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer of Pandora parent SiriusXM. “We are thrilled to be collaborating with the band to create this truly personal and groundbreaking U2 music experience for Pandora listeners.”

On each Mode, the band digs deep into its storied history to tell the tales
and spin the songs behind the early years that launched the young band on
    its path to global superstardom.

Speaking about their early influences, Bono said  “I learned a lot from Iggy Pop. I’ve learned a lot from performers who are not comfortable with a safe distance between the stage and the audience.”

Adam Clayton added   “Half of ‘October’ is kind of an admission from us
that we are absolutely out of our depth, we don’t know what we’re doing, we don’t know if there’s a future for us as a band.”

To experience U2’s Artist Takeover on Pandora:

    1.     Search for “U2 Radio” on Pandora and tap the U2 Radio icon 2.     Tap the Now Playing bar at the bottom of your screen 3.     Tap the “New Modes Added” button at the top of your screen 4.     Select from Modes devoted to U2 albums Boy, October, or War

U2’s Artist Takeover on Pandora follows the launch of U2 X-Radio on SiriusXM, an exclusive SiriusXM channel devoted to the band’s music,
history, idols, influences, and current passions all curated by U2.

Artist Takeovers are a “guest DJ”-style Pandora experience where top artists program a mix of their songs, as well as favorites from other
artists, and add their own personal commentary. Artist Takeovers are an extension of Pandora Modes, a unique feature that lets users customize
their Pandora listening experience by choosing from selectable “modes” on their favorite stations to give more control over which songs they hear.

World Cafe To Celebrate 30th Anniversary Over 30 Weeks

    Posted: 14 Oct 2021 05:16 AM PDT https://radioinsight.com/headlines/214074/world-cafe-to-celebrate-30th-anniversary-over-30-weeks/

As “ground zero” for contemporary music discovery, the nationally-syndicated daily music program World Cafe has been giving public radio audiences an up-close view of the artistic process since October 14,
    1991 30 years ago today.
To commemorate the milestone, this week World Cafe launched its “30 Over 30” (30 years over 30 weeks) series of special programming features that highlight its rich history as a trusted music guide. The highly regarded
World Cafe is a dynamic, carefully crafted platform for musical discovery without genre boundaries.
“For 30 years, listeners have relied on World Cafe’s deeply human curation to explore content that continually broadens and heightens their music knowledge and enjoyment,” said Bruce Warren, Executive Producer. “Over the next 30 weeks, we’ll present ‘deep cuts’ from World Cafe archives  some of
the best moments from the last 30 years along with what we think is
    happening now, and next.”
Warren has been with World Cafe since its inception, when public radio
station WXPN/Philadelphia leveraged its programming expertise and a grant
from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to design a national program
that would attract younger listeners to public radio. Initially distributed
by PRI (Public Radio International) to five affiliates, it was carried by approximately 50 radio stations by the end of 1992. NPR began distributing
it in 2005, and today World Cafe is carried by 267 radio stations across
the US. Combining terrestrial reach with online streaming, podcasts,
on-demand archives, and video content, more than a million music fans
engage with World Cafe content each month.
“As a crucial part of NPR Music’s programming, World Cafe has introduced its loyal audiences in an integrated manner to talented new and legendary musicians, with exclusive interviews, brilliant performances, powerful conversations and special features, says Director of NPR Music Keith
Jenkins. World Cafe celebrates its 30th anniversary by offering to remember
its great past as it looks forward to the next 30 years with its listeners. Hosted by Raina Douris, the daily, two-hour radio show and online content connects todays essential and emerging artists with listeners through its hallmark in-depth artist interviews and in-studio performances. Longtime features such as Latin Roots and Sense of Place help introduce
under-the-radar artists to a national audience and take listeners to great music cities around the globe. Douris and Contributing Host Stephen Kallao
also co-host the weekly World Cafe Words and Music Podcast from WXPN.
Artists have seen their profiles and careers elevated due to being featured
on World Cafe, and many credit the show with supporting them over the
years, as well as breaking numerous songs. World Cafe maintains music
bureaus in Philadelphia, Nashville and New Orleans, and has issued more
than 40 Live at World Cafe CDs and two World Cafe books. The show’s attraction is also reflected in the popular Philadelphia concert venue
World Cafe Live, which shares a building with WXPN and licenses the name.
