    We begin this bulletin with the news of a silent key.

    Sadly, one of our respected radio amateurs passed away on Thursday 23 De
    cember after a long sickbed. Jan Hattingh, ZS6BMN / AG5RF was well known
    in the metrology field as an expert on the subject. He was a highly intel ligent and compassionate human being. Jan became a radio amateur in the la
    te 1960s and qualified as a private pilot around the same time. Our sincer
    e condolences are extended to his family and friends.

    ARISS SSTV EVENT SCHEDULED TO START ON 26 DECEMBER

    An ARISS Slow Scan TV (SSTV) event is scheduled from the International Spa
    ce Station (ISS). The event is slated to begin at 18:25 UTC on Sunday 26 D ecember for setup and operation and continue until 17:05 UTC on Friday 31
    December. Dates and times are subject to change due to ISS operational ad justments. Images will be downlinked on 145,800 MHz +/- 3 kHz for Dopple
    r shift and the expected SSTV mode of operation is PD 120. The main theme
    will be for this event will be lunar exploration. Radio enthusiasts takin
    g part in the event can post and view images on the ARISS SSTV Gallery at
    www.spaceflightsoftware.com/ARISS_SSTV/. After your image is posted at th

    THE SAMOC "STRAIGHT KEY NIGHT"

    The Straight Key Night runs from 00:00 to 23:59 UTC on Saturday 1 January
    2022 and this 24-hour event is not a contest - rather it is a day
    dedicated to celebrating our CW heritage. Participants are encouraged to
    get on the air and simply make enjoyable conversational CW QSOs. The use
    of straight keys or bugs to send CW is preferred. There are no points sco
    red and all who take part are winners. You are requested to vote for â
    -˜Best Fist' and "Most Interesting QSO" on you
    r list of contacts by including â-˜Best Fist' or "Mo
    st Interesting QSO" in the comments field. There is an Excel log s
    heet available on the Contest Page on the SARL website.

    THE JANUARY 2022 RADIO ZS

    The January 2022 issue of Radio ZS will be available for download during t
    he coming week from the SARL website. Seventy-five years ago, in July 19
    47 this first Radio ZS was published.

    In this issue you can read about the CubeSat 3 Feedback report and about a ctivating the 4 metre band. The Jeugland ARC went on their first SOTA expe dition and we look back to 1961 and the launch of OSCAR 1. Who was Hans Ch ristian 0rsted? We look at a Frame Antenna for the Low Bands and read

    NEW CHINESE AMATEUR RADIO SATELLITE COULD LAUNCH ON 25 DECEMBER

    The CAMSAT XW-3 (CAS-9) amateur radio satellite has been installed on the
    CZ-4C Y39 launch vehicle at the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre in China
    and related work is in progress as planned, CAMSAT's Alan Kung
    , BA1DU, reports.

    "If all goes well, the satellite will be launched on 25 December
    2021." The orbit will be a circular sun-synchronous orbit with an
    altitude of 770,1 kilometres. The XW-3 (CAS-9) user manual has more det
    ails. The 100 mW linear transponder will have an uplink frequency of 145
    ,870 MHz and a downlink frequency of 435,180 MHz (transponder passband
    is 30 kHz, inverted). The satellite will have a CW beacon on 435,575

    PROPAGATION REPORT

    Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP, reports that the solar activity is expected to
    be at moderate levels. There are currently a number of sunspot regions vi sible, some C-class or M-class flaring can be expected. If you want to d
    o your own frequency predictions, the expected effective sunspot number
    for the week will be around 82. The 10 to 30 m bands will provide some go

    18:25 UTC op Sondag 26 Desember begin vir opstelling en bedryf en voortdu

    DIE JANUARIE 2022 RADIO ZS

    Die Januarie 2022-uitgawe van Radio ZS sal gedurende die komende week vana
    f die SARL-webwerf beskikbaar wees om af te laai. Vyf-en-sewentig jaar gel
    ede, in Julie 1947, is die eerste Radio ZS gepubliseer.

    In hierdie uitgawe kan jy lees oor die CubeSat 3 Terugvoer verslag en oor
    die aktivering van die 4 meter band. Die Jeugland ARK het op hul eerste S OTA-ekspedisie gegaan en ons kyk terug na 1961 en die bekendstelling van O
    SCAR 1. Wie was Hans Christian 0rsted? Ons kyk na 'n raam-antenna vir
    die lae bande en lees oor die YL-aktiwiteit. En meer!

    Die Sandton Amateurradioklub wil graag die Wesrand Amateurradioklub gelukw

    NUWE SJINESE AMATEUR RADIO SATELLIET KAN OP 25 DESEMBER GELANSEER WORD
