Why is FT8 so much more popular than FT4?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2021 05:47 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/riwfbf/why_is_ft8_so_much_more_popular_than_ft4/

Ive made hundreds of contacts on both (mostly 40m), but I find I dont make
as many on FT4 for the simple fact that fewer contacts are available. The
FT8 segment will be absolutely packed while FT4 is virtually silent. What
is keeping people away? submitted by /u/sturnus-vulgaris

Can an 80W transceiver safely use an antenna rated for 60W?

Question in title. Could not find an answer for this but I read that the
radio will more than likely not need to get anywhere near 80 watts but I
wanted to know if said radio can safely use a 60 watt antenna. submitted

    Oh thee Ham lords...

Im an electronics and communication engineering student. I want to know if there are some websites where I could find how much tx power or eirp or
other parameters for amateurs (without license) is allowed to use. Also are there websites for the same for ham license. I want to start doing a long
range telemetry project but dont want to use off the shelf products like
lora modules and stuff(Ive used them already). I want to design my own
board and test it. Just trying to get some deep and practical knowledge on
how communication systems work. Thanks for your help :) submitted by /u/mesmerizedbystars

Just curious if theres a way to send/receive APRS on a pi-star. Got my
beacon working and was wondering if I could send stuff out. submitted

May be a dumb question regarding speakers for my radio...

    Posted: 17 Dec 2021 05:48 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/riwgch/may_be_a_dumb_question_regarding_speakers_for_my/

Im trying to build a helmet headset for my Yaesu FT-250L airband radio. I
have figured out the pinouts to do this, Im just not sure what speakers to
put in my helmet. Ive searched everywhere, and it may be just because I
dont know what to search (I know little to nothing about speakers and
radios), but I cant find anything.
My radios manual says the earphone impedance should be 8 ohms or higher. I would imagine the speakers require a certain voltage or wattage? So my
question is: How do I determine the power/voltage output on my MIC/SP jack pinout and how do I determine what helmet speakers would be suitable for
    this build?
Thanks much for the help. If this is the wrong subreddit I will gladly move
it to the correct one with a point in the right direction! submitted by /u/Ckflyer13
