    Is the ZS6BKW a scam?

    Posted: 16 Dec 2021 06:15 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/ri6ib0/is_the_zs6bkw_a_scam/

This might be long. tl;dr Are most commercially available premade antennas
    a lie in a box?
I have access to some decent height trees just off my property about 150ft
from my roof (bend angle around 110deg). So Im searching for a decent
dipole adjacent antenna that will get me decent performance across 160m to
    20m.
The extended double zepp is too long. Standard dipole really only works as
a monoband. End fed might work but requires some ground hardware that seems like more a pain since I have space for a dipole like antenna.
I thought I had settled on the doublet.
So I go to YouTube and look up some comparisons. Lo and behold: theres a
thing called the ZS6BKW. Advertised as the best antenna that ever lived.
The second coming of G5RV jesus. A system so unique, it required math!
    But....
Im not sold. How does the math account for my unique near field conditions?
I put a cursed 10m dipole in my attic using the same math everyone else
does and the best I can get is ~3 SWR due to the hellscape of RF that is my attic. 6in metal flu, HVAC ducting, 60hz electric that goes who knows where.
So the pitch feels more like ZS6BKW: the best* antenna that you can own!
*this puppy will get you EME to KO on 20m; If you happen to have two 200ft towers in rural South Dakota 300ft away from each other with a good metal ground plane. Also, no electric service (gotta keep the noise floor tight!)
I cant figure out how they mathd away trimming. And if they didnt, isnt
that just a G5RV with extra steps? submitted by /u/MrMcFisticuffs

What would create interference on a specific VHF frequency?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2021 02:19 AM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rieft0/what_would_create_interference_on_a_specific_vhf/

I’m a pilot and novice ham. Tonight on 123.025 I experienced heavy interference (static) when flying over one specific area. This is strange because I fly of this area regularly and am always monitoring the frequency
and have never encountered this issue. The interference was only over a
very limited area and I experienced this each time I flew by over the
course of 6 hours. There was no interference on 123.050 or 123.000. This interference was constant with no breaks. submitted by /u/Ares_83x

I have two older cb antennas, one my laying around my grandmas house, and another I picked up for a couple bucks at a u-pick-it car lot. Neither fit
the modern uhf connectors on trucks cb radio. What is the best way to
connect these to my regular male uhf connector? Or am I better off spending $40-50 on a new antenna?

I have an anytone d578uvii that Ive been using daily and it doesnt have any problems other than that it will freeze up. It will look like its just
sitting there doing nothing waiting for someone to call but in conclusion
it was actually frozen (the time on the display is stuck where it froze).
This only happens every so often. I do leave my radio on 24/7 as I use it
to communicate with friends and family. Do these radios need to be turned
off and on every now and then? My guess now with this problem is maybe so.
But Im wondering if anyone else has had this problem or something
    similar. submitted by /u/__420_

I have a LOT of doubt about the practicality of this, but its something new

Designing a pulsed system, want to make sure I'm understanding FCC rules correctly

    Posted: 16 Dec 2021 05:16 AM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rhqjdm/designing_a_pulsed_system_want_to_make_sure_im/

I know this isnt ham radio, but I figured it wouldnt be a bad place to ask
and it appears to be within the rules of the sub. Im designing a pulsed
radar system, which I believe would be considered a "field disturbance
    sensor" under the FCC rules.
FCC part 15 rules for this say the maximum average field strength is
500mV/m at 3 meters. From one of their documents, they say EIRP can be calculated as EIRP=(E_avg * d)2 / 30, where E is the field strength
(0.5V/m) and d is the distance (3m). This gives me an EIRP of
    10*log10(0.075) = 18.75dBm.
Further, they specify that peak emissions are permitted to be 20dB above
the allowed average emissions, so a peak pulse power can be up to 38.75dBm. Going back through the equation, this gives me E_peak = 158 V/m which in
order to stay in the average field strength restriction gives me a maximum
    duty cycle of 0.5/158 = 0.3%.
    If I wanted a duty cycle of 1%, giving me a peak E of 0.5/1%=50V/m, I could
    get an peak EIRP of 10*log10((50 * 3)2 / 30) = 28.75dBm.

Best conduit for flat and angled underground runs

    Posted: 16 Dec 2021 04:50 AM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rhq3g7/best_conduit_for_flat_and_angled_underground_runs/

Ive got stainless steel wire running along the bottom of my chain linked
fence. I was wanting to try this out as an experimental antenna as well as
an experimental AM BCB receiving antenna. From my house, Id like to run underground to the fenceline because I eventually want to incorporate additional feedline towards that area. I have about a 10 foot flat run, a
90 degree turn, and then a 10 foot run with a slight incline. I will also
be using direct bury rg8x (just because thats what I have on hand). What is
the best conduit to use in this situation? PVC with holes drilled every so often? Hoping to hear from someone thats had good experience with a setup
like this. Thanks!! submitted by /u/jlwlynn

However, they are compatible with the Radioditty GM-30 battery, which has a USB-C charging port on the battery: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0968DXLLX
