    DIY?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2021 07:16 AM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rijltw/diy/

Im interested in building transmitters and especially receivers and
antennas by myself. I understand that DIY isnt industry grade, but Im more interested in the process or research and prototyping RF electronics. With
that said, where is a good place to start? (Sites, youtubers, subreddits,
    etc)
Note: I have an average understanding of electronics, and some experience
with RF equipment. submitted by /u/TheCatalyst69

Mobile Mount: Roof Rack Lip vs L-Bracket

    Posted: 17 Dec 2021 10:54 AM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rio648/mobile_mount_roof_rack_lip_vs_lbracket/

    Hello!
So Ive been learning a lot since I first setup my mobile radio for 4x4
amateur communications. My current mount is a lip mount on the edge of my Prinsu rack with the screws firmly into the aluminum. I chose this style
mount because I can just tilt the antenna over when I am not using it and
flip it back up. It worked okay. I get about 1 SWR in VHF and 1.4-1.6 on
UHF with SW102 meter on an SS680SB
Now there are some shortcomings. I needed a smaller unit for 4x4 and went
with the Larsen 2/70 over the SSB-1. I find however the Larsen produces
~1.6 SWR everywhere - probably because its a 1/4 VHF and 3/4 UHF. I had
plans to use the same mount for a commercial radio and fear the Larsen will
be be unusable on some of the resource channels despite SWR scans showing
that it works well up to 170MHz with a perfect ground plane.
Would it be worth it to manufacturer some sort of L bracket to the roof
rack. I need the space so it would go behind the last rail in the corner
where the antenna is currently. It would at least give it some sort of flat plate albeit not 1/4A long.

Recommendation for a 50ish ohm non-coiled/translucent light bulb for dummy
    load project?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2021 08:37 AM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rilate/recommendation_for_a_50ish_ohm/

I bought a 300 watt light bulb off of eBay and the ohm rating wasn’t 48,
but rather 3.5… it was a 4,114 watt lightbulb. Can’t trust labels these days. lol submitted by /u/joe_rt
