Errant Automated Signal on 2m running 24/7 for over a month

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 08:43 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/r97rez/errant_automated_signal_on_2m_running_247_for/

Hoping I can get some help tracking a signal.
On 11/4 I noticed an automated signal had popped up on a 2m simplex freq (147.455 MHz) and has been running since. Its been picked up from
Greenville SC to Cheraw SC and Ashville NC to Columbia SC. For reference,
its about a 3 hour drive from Greenville to Cheraw.
Im currently just north of Kershaw, SC, about an hour south of Charlotte,
    NC.
The signal sounds like Morse, but it has an aberrant cadence and includes dot/dash combos that are not found in American Morse code. It doesnt seem
to have any discernably repeating pattern. After every seeming CW letter
theres a kerchunk like a repeater tx closing. Online I find no 2m beacons
above 144.xxx and no repeaters on this freq. The signal has a very wide bandwidth.
Heres a link to the audio file on google drive. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1l88BO4wetOJz8nKgb7GbVS2H4krB9BE9/view?usp=sharing
Im picking up the same signal elsewhere too. Ive found it simultaneously broadcasting on other freq in 2m (146.005, 146.665, 147.565(?), 147.590, 148.865, 149.295, 149.720, 150.8825, 151.5575) and in mid Nov picked it up
on 10m at 28.565, though I havent found it there for a couple of weeks. I
cant be sure if the 2m frequencies are additional tx or harmonics. The 10m signal was a big jump for harmonics spaced so close together.
I connected my radio into Fldigi and I got three simultaneous signals in
the waterfall at 800hz (strongest), 1600hz, and 2400hz (weakest). They
wander a bit, but stay pretty tight to those spots. The waterfall tracings
for the three columns are simultaneous, but not uniform to each other.
Someone asked about the same signal at the same freq (147.455) on another reddit post. Has been picked up in Greenville SC, Cheraw SC,
Columbia/Lexington SC, and Ashville NC. Thats a 2m signal covering hundreds
of square miles. That shouldnt be possible. https://www.reddit.com/r/signalidentification/comments/r856eb/i_found_this_centered_around_147450_and_147455/
He said he got a bearing of 60 degrees from Greenville. A station in Spartanburg, SC also picked up the signal weakly at 147.455 from a 9e yagi
on a 100 tower bearing about 60 deg. Both lines point just NW of Charlotte,
but as theyre from the same direction so that really doesnt increase the
    data pool for triangulation.
If anyone in the Northern SC or Southern NC area has a 2m yagi, or knows a
ham who does, and can provide an Rx grid square and a bearing on any or all
of those frequencies that would really help me narrow this down. Priority
    is 147.455.
Like I said above, theres an open carrier 24/7, but the signal itself seems
to broadcast mostly in the morning to early afternoon. I have picked it up
at night, but its more common to find the dead air open carrier in the evening/night.

    FCC License as a Non-American

    Posted: 05 Dec 2021 01:42 AM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/r9cbx3/fcc_license_as_a_nonamerican/

Hi, I have to get an FCC radio license for operating in the UHF region for
an upcoming rocketry competition where our rocket must provide Radio
telemetry. Unfortunatley my own home country does not have a repirorical licensenging agreement and it seems like I have to get an FCC license to be able to operate the rocket telemtry system.
Is anyone familiar with the process of getting a license for a
    non-american ? submitted by /u/Hurt_cow

    ARRL Handbook Supplement

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 09:15 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/r98brr/arrl_handbook_supplement/

The website says a link will be sent "in a separate email".
The book has arrived (in Australia) but theres no sign of a link email.
Is this something that typically takes a while, or should I contact
    ARRL? submitted by /u/soupie62
