THE TALKING TECH POWER HOUR ON 24 NOVEMBER 2021

Are you interested in RaDAR and ultra-portable amateur radio? This month
's Talking Tech Power Hour has special guest Eddie, ZS6BNE and h
e will be sharing interesting and entertaining insights into Rapidly Deplo yable Amateur Radio stations (RADAR) and ultra-portable stations. Everyone
is welcome to join in from 19:00 CAT on Wednesday 24 November on the Sand
ton 145,700 MHz repeater and Echolink.

COUNCIL TO MEET ON 26 AND 27 NOVEMBER

The Council will meet face-to-face on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 November a
t the National Amateur Radio Centre. This will be the first face-to-face m eeting since February 2019. Council will look at the arrangements for the
2022 AGM, the budget for 2022/23; the work of the SARL-100 working grou
p; SARL Hamnet; the ICASA liaison; HF and VHF and above matters and more d uring the meeting.

IARU REGION 1 - DECEMBER 2021 YOTA MONTH

December is YOTA Month when several youngsters from Member Societies will
become active on the air with YOTA as suffix in the call signs. From Wedn esday 1 December to Friday 31 December 2021, international YOTA stations
, operated by young amateurs in their teens and early 20s, will attemp
t to make many contacts worldwide with each other. This event is aimed at
our young generation and is an excellent opportunity for clubs to get you ngsters on the air who are interested in or want to find out more about Am ateur Radio.

It is not a formal contest, but a way to get our current young amateurs
on the air contacting hundreds of other youngsters around the world. The
SARL has registered the special call sign ZS9YOTA on the YOTA website for
use by clubs and individuals during December. All radio amateurs are welc
ome to enjoy a QSO with the youngsters, be aware that some of them are n
ew to the radio hobby, while others are more experienced.

SARL TROPHIES AND AWARDS

On 2 November 2021, a SARL Communication was sent to members with inform
ation about the SARL Trophies and Awards, a call for motions for the 202
2 AGM and nominations to serve on Council. This information is also in the
November 2021 Radio ZS. Do not wait until Sunday 30 January 2022 to submi
t your motion or nomination - do it now!

The West Rand Boot Sale will return to the normal time slot of 12:00 CAT o

The Sandton Amateur Radio Club has noticed that 2021 is rapidly running ou

PROPAGATION REPORT

Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP, reports that the solar activity is expected to
be at low levels. There are currently two active sunspot regions visible
and there is a small possibility of C-class flaring. If you want to do yo
ur own frequency predictions, the expected effective sunspot number for
the week will be around 10. The 15 to 30 m bands will especially during t

Die Raad sal op Vrydag 26 en Saterdag 27 November van aangesig tot aangesi
g by die Nasionale Amateurradiosentrum vergader. Dit sal die eerste vergad ering sedert Februarie 2019 wees. Die Raad sal kyk na die reëlings vi
r die 2022 AJV, die begroting vir 2022/23; die werk van die SARL-100-wer kgroep; SARL Hamnet; die OKOSA-skakeling; HF en VHF en hoër sake en m
eer tydens die vergadering.

IARU STREEK 1 - DESEMBER 2021 YOTA MAAND

Desember is YOTA-maand wanneer verskeie jongmense van Lidverenigings aktie
f sal wees met YOTA as agtervoegsel in die roepseine. Van Woensdag 1 Desem
ber tot Vrydag 31 Desember 2021 sal internasionale YOTA-stasies, wat deu
r jong amateurs in hul tienerjare en vroeë twintigs bedryf word, pr
obeer om wêreldwyd baie kontakte met mekaar te maak. Hierdie geleenth
eid is gerig op ons jong generasie en is 'n uitstekende geleentheid vir kl
ubs om jongmense op die lug te kry wat belangstel in of meer wil leer oor
Amateur Radio.

Dit is nie 'n formele kompetisie nie, maar 'n manier om ons huidige jong
amateurs op die lug te laat kontak met honderde ander jongmense regoor di
e wêreld. Die SARL het 'n spesiale roepsein ZS9YOTA op die IARU Stree
k 1-webwerf geregistreer as 'n opvoedkundige roepsein vir gebruik deur klu
bs en individue gedurende Desember. Alle radioamateurs is welkom om 'n QSO
saam met die jongmense te geniet. Let daarop dat sommige van hulle nuut i
s in die radio-stokperdjie, terwyl ander meer ervare is.

2022 AJV en nominasies om op die Raad te dien. Hierdie inligting is ook i
n die November 2021 Radio ZS. Moenie wag tot Sondag 30 Januarie 2022 om jo
u mosie of nominasie in te dien nie - doen dit nou!

gaan wees. Tans is daar twee sonvlekgroepe sigbaar en daar is 'n moontlik
heid van geringe C-klas sonfakkels.
Diegene wat hulle eie frekwensievoorspellings wil doen, kan 'n verwagte
effektiewe sonvlektelling van 10 vir die week gebruik. Radio amateurs kan
