A SPECIAL CALL SIGN FOR REMEMBRANCE DAY

Armistice Day is held on 11 November each year and a Remembrance Day parad
e or ceremony is usually held on the Sunday closest to 11 November. This y
ear it will be held on the 14th of November 2021. As radio amateurs we wou
ld like to support the members of the Memorable Order of Tin Hats (MOTHS).
During all wars communication has played an extremely important role. Alt hough radio amateur's equipment was either confiscated or sealed
, they still used their skills and knowledge to assist their countries i
    n the war effort.

A special call sign, ZS18MOTH, has been obtained to commemorate the si
gning of the Armistice 103 years ago. At approximately 05:00 on Monday 11
November 1918, the Armistice was signed in a railway carriage of Marsha
ll Foch's special train located in the forest at Rethondes in France on th
e western front. At 11 o'clock on this Monday 11 November 1918, the roar
of guns ceased as peace and silence finally descended on the western fron
t, ending the First World War. The call sign represents ZS ÿouth Afr
ica; 18 ñ918 the year the guns of World War 1 fell silent and MOTH the Memorial Order of the Tin Hats.

The call sign will be active from 06:00 UTC on Thursday 11 November until
    16:00 UTC on Sunday 14 November on 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 metres. On
Sunday 14 November between 08:00 and 12:00 UTC, ZS18MOTH will be active
from the Cenotaph in Mossel Bay in support of the MOTHs from the Blaize-a
way Shell Hole. QSOs will be confirmed via a specially designed and printe
    d Remembrance Day QSL card.
