    145 Alive Event Next Week

    The UK organisers have arranged for a 145 Alive event to be held on
    Saturday 27th January between 13:00 and 15:00 local time on 2 metre FM.
    While there is limited EI participation this time, the IRTS plan to
    arrange a large 145 Alive event later in the year when weather
    conditions should be more favourable for outdoor operating. On January
    27th, thirty control stations will be on the air in the UK and Ireland,
    including three in Ireland at Ballybay, Co. Monaghan, Clermont Cairn,
    Co. Louth, and Watergrasshill, Co. Cork. A further four GI stations
    will be in action in also. You are invited to please support this
    event.

    South Eastern Amateur Radio Group EI2WRC

    The January meeting of the South Eastern Amateur Radio group, EI2WRC,
    will take place on Monday, January 29th at 8 p.m. sharp at the New
    Community Men's Shed, Ozanam Centre, Coffee House Lane, Waterford.
    Anyone that has an interest in amateur radio or communications in
    general are very welcome to come along. SWLs are in particular, very

    IRTS AGM Weekend Update

    Shannon Basin Radio Club announce that tickets for the 2024 IRTS Gala
    Dinner are now available for sale. They may be purchased directly from
    the club's website for the event which is www.sbrc.ie/agmweekend They
    may also be purchased from a club committee member at the upcoming
    Phoenix Amateur Radio Club rally in Coolmine and the Limerick Clare
    Amateur Radio Club rally in Ennis. A full house is expected again this
    year so you are advised to get your ticket in good time to avoid
    disappointment. Please note that online purchases will incur a small
    additional processing charge. The gala dinner will be held in the
    Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway on Saturday night April
    13th, 2024, as part of the IRTS AGM Weekend activities.

    New SOTA Mountain goat

    Congratulations to Colm Breathnach, EI9KY, from Waterford who reached
    1,000 Summit on the Air (SOTA) points on Saturday 13th January on Shehy
    More EI/IS-049 in Cork to become EI's latest Mountain Goat. Colm
    becomes the 5th EI Mountain Goat and joins EI3KA, EI7KH, EI6FR, and
    EI9KP in this exclusive club.

    Winter Field Day is Coming

    Winter Field Day is a communications exercise held on the last full
    weekend in January which is next weekend. It is sponsored by the Winter
    Field Day Association who encourage emergency operating preparedness
    during the winter months. At the time of compiling this news, there
    were over seven hundred stations registered worldwide with just four in
    Ireland. Categories include home stations, indoor and outdoor stations,
    in addition to mobile or mobile/stationary. You can find out more and

    Rally Dates for your Diary

    The Phoenix Amateur Radio Club Rally takes place on Sunday February
    11th, 2024. It will be held in Coolmine Community School, Clonsilla,
    Dublin 15, Eircode D15 FW97. Admission is five euro and doors open at
    11 a.m. The usual traders will be in attendance. If you wish to secure
    a table for the rally or require further information about the event,

    The Limerick Clare Amateur Radio Club Rally will take on Sunday
    February 25th in the Temple Gate Hotel, Ennis. Doors will open at 11.00
    a.m. All the main traders will be present and there will be an
    extensive bring and buy section. Tables for the event are filling up
    and if you require one or more, please contact Dermot Gleeson at
    dermotgleeson1 /at/ gmail.com.

    In April, the Shannon Basin Radio Club rally takes place on Sunday
    April 14th. It will be held in the Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe, Co.
    Galway as part of the 2024 IRTS AGM weekend. Doors will open at 10.00
    a.m. A large number of traders and clubs are now booked to take part in
    this. It will feature a bring and buy as well as the hugely popular
    monster raffle. Further information may be found at

    Following this, Lough Erne Amateur Radio Club's 40th rally will take
    place on Sunday 5th May 2024. The venue will be the Share Discovery
    Village located at 221 Lisnaskea Rd, Lisnaskea, Enniskillen BT92 0JZ.
    The usual traders will be in attendance including the IRTS, RSGB
    bookstall, QSL Bureau, IRTS, and a bring and buy. Food and drink are
    available at the rally, with lunch also being served. Doors will open
    at 11 a.m. Admission will be five euro or five pound which includes a
    ticket for the draw on the day.

    Upcoming CW Contests

    The 2024 CQ Worldwide 160m CW contest takes place from 10 p.m. next
    Friday January 26th until 10 p.m. on Sunday 28th. All times are local.
    This is intended for amateurs around the world to contact other
    amateurs in as many U.S. states, Canadian provinces, and countries as
    possible on the 160-meter band. The next 80m contest of the 2023-2024
    UK and Ireland Contest Club season is on Wednesday 31st January 2024 at
    20:00 local time on CW. The bonus stations EI5G, operated by Pete
    EI7CC, and GM5GEI, operated by Chris GM3WOJ will be active.
