Apparent Broad Spectrum RFI in the Shack

    Posted: 10 Mar 2022 07:14 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/tbgizy/apparent_broad_spectrum_rfi_in_the_shack/

So I recently installed a fan dipole antenna in my attic, since I live in
an HOA. My shack is on the second floor of my QTH, and the attic is above
the second floor (about 2.5 stories off the ground). The fan dipole is cut
and resonant (within 1.5:1) on 30m, 20m, and 10m. To initially test this install I was running my G90 at the full 20 watts across all these bands
for a few days without issue.
Yesterday I connected my IC-7300 to the antenna and tried running CW at
various power levels (starting at 50 watts and working down). In trying
this I found that my wireless access point (a Ubiquity Unifi Pro) that is located on the first floor of the house would turn off as soon as I transmitted. This happens unless I cut the power down to about 10 watts on
the 7300 (exact power where this trips does appear to vary a couple watts
per band, I need to turn it down to about 8 watts on 30 meters).
I was wondering if anyone may know the cause of this, or what a remedy may
be? It only appears to be affecting that product, and nothing else (which
is interesting, as it doesnt appear to be having an effect on any of the electronics on the second floor of the house, which is closest to the
    antenna). submitted by /u/radioStuff5567

    Ressources for building radios.

    Posted: 10 Mar 2022 12:29 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/tb80a6/ressources_for_building_radios/

Im pretty sure this was asked many times but new good new ressources are
also being made in the meantime.
My interest in radio is growing and Id like to build my own receiver. There
are lot of readily designed radio circuitry everywhere but where would be
the fun. Do you have some ressources on radio building blocks, how theyre interconnected, whats inside of them ?
I had some EE courses from university and read the bible of electronics but
all I can find is mathematical formulas (I have obviously issues making
links between components and formulas). For some I know how to build blocks that will at least mimic whats expected but not enough to make a full
    featured receiver.
Out of regulations that are pretty easy to get (at least for me, in my country), I think this is whats blocking me from getting (and studying more for) a license. submitted by /u/damfle

Like it says stuff of a technical nature of personal remarks of relative importance, what does that even mean? Isn’t it just anything they want to
as long as it isn’t rude or offensive? I know the basics of what not to do (keeping it pg because people of any age can be on there and most don’t
want to listen to jerry the sailor, don’t talk to people you aren’t allowed to, don’t be a terrible person etc) but like apart from that, is there any limit? submitted by /u/TheFloofiestAirplane

Portable, digital, HF, indoor-friendly station recommendations?

    Posted: 10 Mar 2022 11:49 AM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/tb75df/portable_digital_hf_indoorfriendly_station/

Im looking to put together a shack-away-from-home setup of some sort. My primary requirement is to be able to have some fun on the air from a hotel
room where I might not be able to string anything outdoors. Id like it to
be more capable than that, but thats the most strict situation I think Id
want to operate in. Here are some other thoughts: Im mostly interested in operating HF digital modes; QRP is fine I also do a lot of SWL For the
antenna, I was originally thinking a magnetic loop; it would be nice to
have an antenna that I can use as a secondary for receive-only or WSPR when
Im back at home The quicker the setup and teardown, the better I dont want
to do remote operation of my home rig If I can avoid having to build
anything, that would be best (theres no room on my workbench, and Im half sloth)
I did some searching around, but found more information about what I
shouldnt do. Anyone have any success with this sort of thing? Thanks!

Got my shipment from China ATU-100 & USDX

    Posted: 09 Mar 2022 09:10 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/tar6qf/got_my_shipment_from_china_atu100_usdx/

Finally got my shipment from China today. Ordered January 31st. Now the
problem is that the ATU-100 didnt come with a case, or, no surprise, instructions. Sooooo, a couple of questions for those in the know. Anyone
know how to hook up the OLED properly? Where can I get a case that will fit this tuner nicely? How does one hook up power and proper voltage? I am
excited to do some POTA/SOTA, but didnt want to take my FT-891 in the field unnecessarily, plus my ginourmous tuner. By the way, I dont have a 3-D
printer to print a case, but could potentially pay a work friend to print a case for me. If I were to request that of him, what would be a fair price
for both his time and materials? Thanks for your time! 73 - N5XRB
[update] I see the pinouts are marked now, so proper hookups are not
needed, but knowing the proper voltage and how to operate would still be a plus. Also checking youtube. submitted by /u/BloodEnvironmental13

Can someone help decipher this bit of Canadian legalese when it comes to CB?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2022 08:21 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/taqco5/can_someone_help_decipher_this_bit_of_canadian/

From this website, and specifically this,
In the case of double-sideband (DSB) radio equipment, the assigned
frequency shall be the nominal carrier frequency (fc). In the case of single-sideband (SSB) equipment, the assigned frequency shall be 1.40 kHz
above the carrier frequency (fc) for upper-sideband (USB) operation, and
1.40 kHz below for lower-sideband (LSB) operation.
So its AM? Ive never actually been clear if SSB is am or fm but google says
AM, so Im going with that. So USB needs to operate at, say, 27005 kHz + 1.4
kHz = 27006.4? Is that right? What do most truckers use anyways, or is it a
bit of a mixed bag? I know I cant really chat with them on my mobile HF
unless I get an 11m antenna, but something else to listen to on the
highways would be nice. submitted by /u/ur_canadian_brudda

Legality of certain content in winlink emails

    Posted: 09 Mar 2022 09:59 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/tarzpd/legality_of_certain_content_in_winlink_emails/

Curious what the thoughts are on legality of including signatures in
    winlink messages.
For example, a user sends an email from his iPhone to a winlink user. At
the bottom of the mail, the standard "Sent from my iPhone 13 Pro" signature
is present. Can this be considered "commercial" content and thus be
    problematic for the recipient?
Another example, say ICOM comes up with a new radio with built in winlink capabilities. By default, outgoing message include the signature "Sent via ICOM-707" with maybe a link to their web site.
Would any of these cases fall under 97.113 Prohibited transmissions?

I have a 6 volt DC, 2 mm center, 500 ma, tip negative wallwart power supply
for an oldy but goody style radio that is injecting horrible levels of
crackly noise. When I unplug the AC wallwart supply and run on battery the sound is clean. Does anyone know of a hi end power supply brand/model that would be say manufactured specifically for medical/radio/hi-tech where this DIRTY DC power EMI noise would not be present? submitted by /u/adayton01
