trying to figure it all out.

    MFJ-935C Loop Tuner

    Posted: 29 Dec 2021 12:09 AM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rr2zwc/mfj935c_loop_tuner/

I just got the MFJ-935C, brilliant tuner and works a lot better than I had anticipated. https://mfjenterprises.com/products/mfj-935c-high-efficiency-magnetic-loop-tuner-antenna-current-meter#description
For 20m I used the recommended single band loop size in the MFJ manual of
13 feet and formed this into a loop using 10mm diameter copper pipe and
first contact was to Canada from Ireland with 20 watts!
A few days later I used a smaller loop on 20m using 9 feet of copper pipe
and made contacts 1000-1200 miles away into Italy and Spain with 20 watts.
It works at 100 Watts no problem too.
At 20m the safe distance according to the manual at 100 watts is 3 feet
from the loop or 0.9 meters.
This 9 foot loop fits perfectly into the boot/trunk of my car and I can
take a smaller loop for 17-10 meters which is quite small.
The only real difficulty is being able to support the loop of 13 feet or
larger and for 40 meters, I would have no choice but to use coax as the recommended single band size for 40m is a lengthy 28 feet but I intend to
try out some RG-213 which is all I have long enough for 40m.
The MFJ-935C is definitely worth trying out, even for shorter range
portable coms the smaller 9 foot loop should get many contacts and I got 1000-1200 mile contacts with 20 watts relatively easily and it tunes up on
17m too but have not tried making contacts on this yet. But its possible I
will get longer distance contacts too on the 9 foot loop. Havent used it
    much yet.
The FT-891 makes tuning convenient because I have it set for external tuner
for my MFJ-939Y so when I key up and press the up button on the mic it
sends a 5 watt carrier so I dont have to mess with any settings except make sure AM is set to 5 watts beforehand.
It would be good if MFJ modified this tuner to mount on a tripod. Eric from
ham radio concepts has a couple of videos on this loop, his channel is hamradioconcepts, it was him who inspired me to get this loop.
But, got to say I am very impressed with this loop tuner so far.

    Study audio books

A couple of guys on our SAR team are interested in getting their ham
ticket. Both drive for a living, so an audio book that they could listen to would be ideal. Any suggestions? submitted by /u/falcon5nz

    VHF & UHF video transmission

    Posted: 28 Dec 2021 09:15 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rr00lv/vhf_uhf_video_transmission/

Ive been working with a mix of components ranging from raspberry PIs,
frequency modulators and amplifiers, all bound with coaxial cable for the
goal of watching TV on my Sony Watchman. Around 2019 I had it functioning
with black and white and later in 2020 was able to receive my transmission
in color but have yet to figure out why I cant get audio. Im currently
working on securing all the parts I have to their new permanent housing
once I work out a custom fitted grid so I dont have to worry about the batteries and inverters knocking about. Has anyone here experimented with VHF/UHF and experienced this audio issue?

I've recently acquired a SDR with a frequency range of 1Mhz to 6Ghz however
I'm interested in looking at much lower frequency's <200Khz is there a
device which can boost or amplify the signals into the range my SDR can see?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2021 11:55 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rr2s23/ive_recently_acquired_a_sdr_with_a_frequency/

Sorry for what I can only assume is a stupid question for anyone who knows about radios.
the reason Im interested in such low frequencys is because noise in
electrical circuits/wiring is usually greater affected by lower frequencys.
Im using a Powerline Ethernet adaptor and Ive been monitoring the speeds of
it and there all over the place I wanted to see if my internet speeds are
being directly affected by noise and if so try and work out what the main contributors to electrical noise in my house are submitted by
