Hello Section,
I wanted to take a moment to email the section about our Volunteer
Monitoring Program. Yours truly here received a letter in regards to my operating FT8. Upon receipt of said letter, I reached out to Riley Hollingsworth K4ZDH in regards to the letter and it's content. Upon
further discussion the crux of the problem was using remote operation
and in this case my inability to maintain a solid connection causing me
to lose control of my station.
So, in the future for me I will not be operating remotely due to
inefficiencies in the connections that I use at home. Thus all further operations FT8 and otherwise will be at the home QTH. The purpose of
this is to show that yes indeed the Volunteer Monitoring Program works
and it helps to resolve issues.
If you do use remote operation it would be wise to make sure that your connections on both ends are robust and that the station in use has the
ability for someone to shut down in the unlikely event of a
communication breakdown.
it is important to note that my operations were not illegal in nature,
but because of the unreliability of my remote connection it caused
problems which were brought to light.
A word from Riley is that he wants all of us to operate as much as
possible and to take full advantage of what our license privileges gives
us the ability to operate. And to make sure that we do to the best of
our ability to operate a clean station.
