Same guy always on the repeater
Posted: 16 May 2022 05:48 AM PDT
https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/uqv6oe/same_guy_always_on_the_repeater/
I spend most of my time on HF, but I decided it would be nice to have a
dual band rig in my radio room, however any time I throw my call out, on multiple repeaters, the same guys always come back to me. Hes a nice enough guy, but I run out of things to talk about with him. For me, I like to use repeaters to talk about band conditions, different modes, antenna building
etc. Theirs nothing wrong with some small talk hear and there, but not constantly. This person became an extra class, bought the latest HF
waterfall rig, built all kinds of HF antennas etc. When I spoke to him yesterday, I ask if he had done any HF work over the last 6 months that I
was off of VHF/UHF. He responded no, I just pretty much keep this $1200.00
rig on VHF/UHF to scan the repeaters. I hope I dont sound rude. I just dont understand the mind set. submitted by /u/Shortwave_1

Mag mount dual band antenna on 2019 VW Tiguan?
Posted: 16 May 2022 04:33 AM PDT
https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/uqttav/mag_mount_dual_band_antenna_on_2019_vw_tiguan/
I want to put a mag mount antenna on my wife’s VW Tiguan, while we are on vacation. I’m either going with a complete package or I’m taking my Comet SBB5 off of my car and putting it on a magnet. Has anyone had trouble
closing the hatch while doing this? Thanks. submitted by /u/Saxman31

US FCC ham license for non-US resident?
Posted: 16 May 2022 06:55 AM PDT

Could foreign hams take the test and get their US FCC ham license? I read
they could but they need a US address to do so. If so, what is required for
the test and the license? submitted by /u/chaseNscores

Tuning a 10 meter dipole
Posted: 16 May 2022 05:51 AM PDT
https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/uqv8qr/tuning_a_10_meter_dipole/
I put up a 10 meter dipole, tuned it with an analyzer, and got the lowest
SWR right in the middle of the band. Good. But, that lowest SWR is showing
just below 1.9. My radio shows closer to 1.7 when I transmit at that
frequency. I am showing under 2 across the band with both the analyzer and
the radio, but just barely.
So, should I care about trying to get the SWR lower? If so, how would I do that?

Comet 250

https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/uqrj2j/comet_250/
I am having high SWR issues with my comet 250 multi band. 80/60/40 at 4:1
or a bit higher. Everything else is under 2:1. Does anyone have this
antenna and could give some advise?
