Xiegu x6100 similar model for vhf/uhf

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 02:34 AM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/t10xzo/xiegu_x6100_similar_model_for_vhfuhf/

Hey all! Im not licensed yet, but have been looking at potential radios to purchase, I 100% DO want to get into HF when the time comes, but I want the option to communicate in vhf/uhf as well. I love the size, portability, and just about everything about the xiegu x6100, which leads me to 3 questions. 1)Is the x6100s 10watts enough for global transmission on hf? Antenna is
not an issue, I can string up anything I want as far as antenna size. I
live in Canada and I would like to communicate with Florida, south America, Europe.
2)if 10 watts isnt enough, Can I use any amplifier with that radio? Or is
there more to matching an amp and radio than I am considering?
    3) is there any radio with a similar form factor, thats good for vhf/uhf?
While my end goal is HF, Id like to run it all.
    Thank you very much!
P.s. digital modes are an important requirement! submitted by /u/klintbeastwood10

Anyone successfully get a IC-9100 to work remotely with wfview and WSJT-X?
I cannot get cat control to work.

    Posted: 24 Feb 2022 10:31 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/t0x4oj/anyone_successfully_get_a_ic9100_to_work_remotely/

Im banging my head against the wall. Im sure its something stupd Im doing,
but I cannot for the life of me get cat control working through wfview with
    an ic-9100.
I get the audio working just fine and can transmit by hitting the transmit button just fine. However I cannot get WSJT-X or Winlink to connect
properly. The radio is remote and hooked up to a raspberry pi.
My settings on the pi for wfview, windows 10 for wfview, wsjt-x and virtual serial port are in this imgur gallery:
    https://imgur.com/a/lnrK508
I cant quite see where Im going wrong here. If I vnc into the pi, wsjt-x
works just fine on there. The pi will eventually be used remotely by our
users, so using vnc isnt ideal and wfview is preferred.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. submitted by

My Neighbor HAM or CB Operator and I can hear it at night

I hope this is the right place to post. Every night around 9:15pm-1:15 am I
can hear faint voices and/or music. It sounds like it is coming through our
air vents. Our neighbor just moved in and I believe he is a HAM operator.
His antenna is partially hidden so I cant take any pictures. I have no idea about these things and would like to know where to start a discussion on it with him. It is making is difficult to sleep. Its difficult because I cant pinpoint where the sounds are coming from exactly. Any basic tests I could
do to determine frequency? submitted by /u/MrCool427

    Messages to Ukraine

    Posted: 23 Feb 2022 09:28 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/t02x45/messages_to_ukraine/

    Hi,
My wifes family is Ukrainian. Her brother, mother and the rest of her
family live there. We go back every year. I would like to ask for your help
in finding ways to send messages to our family in Ukraine. They have said
the internet and mobile phones are already down in many places so ham radio operators may be our last hope.
Would anyone be so kind as to help me work out how we can arrange to send
short messages to our family there or how they can get messages to us?
    Many thanks in advance.
It has been pointed out that operators would not be allowed to do this. I
did not know this at all, so thanks very much for letting me know.
Edit: adding clarification and thanks. submitted by

    Full-Duplex VOX walkie-talkie?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2022 06:38 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/t0smqd/fullduplex_vox_walkietalkie/

    Hello /r/amatuerradio!
I’m a racing coach for go-karts looking for an option for speaking and listening to my students while driving.
Our comms device on our helmets have noise-canceling microphones and
    speakers with a 1/4” output.
    I’d like to connect and/or adapt this in-helmet audio/microphone to a
small, light, full duplex radio with voice activated option.
I’ve been doing some searching on Google and YouTube for an off the shelf
and uncomplicated pair of radios that do this but I haven’t found what I’m looking for and don’t know if it either doesn’t exist or I’m just not searching in the right places.
I was hoping this would be the place to ask the question and get an answer
as I am not that educated on my options here.
Thanks in advance everyone, even if there isn’t a product available, pieces to the puzzle are appreciated so I can find a way to accomplish this

This has come up a few times on here. Also, I actually had a personal, practical use case for it
