    RG58 cable testing.

    Posted: 14 Feb 2022 07:37 AM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/ssdg5a/rg58_cable_testing/

I would like to lead out that I am not using these cables in a radio environment. We use these cables for analog sensor applications at my work.
I am looking for any guidance on possible testing for cable failures.
This sub was the only one that came up when I did an RG58 vs RG58-C/U
    search.

We use these cables with BNC connectors on the ends.

Thank you for your time. submitted by /u/locotumbler

    A thought experiment.

    Posted: 14 Feb 2022 07:06 AM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/sscqr2/a_thought_experiment/

So say you had to choose one hf band, and one antenna type with a height
limit of 50ft and you were required to make contact from Texas to Michigan every day. Every time you dont make a successful contact you loose 100
dollars also you only have one hour to make this contact of your choosing.
What time of day, what band, and what antenna are you choosing?
Note: I posted this on r/hamradio but I thought it might do well here as
    well. submitted by /u/mindwarp903

GMRS vs MURs for outdoor use (skiing)

    Posted: 14 Feb 2022 06:40 AM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/ssc57e/gmrs_vs_murs_for_outdoor_use_skiing/

Im looking for a set of radios to use for backcountry skiing. Ive read conflicting things about MURs vs GMRS for this use. As far as I can tell,
MURS is better for wilderness use, but its much lower power. Does the
ability to go through trees make up for the lower power?
Were not going crazy so programmability/repeaters are not features I care about.
Im not super worried about compatibility as Ill have radios for everyone in
my party. Although, there is a chance that the ability to broadcast on FRS bands could be useful in an emergency. Will a GMRS radio like the cheapo midlands or baofeng be able to reach folks with Talkabouts/BCA links?
And yes, I know that every household needs a gmrs license... submitted

searching cheap way to build/get a repeater

    Posted: 14 Feb 2022 02:11 AM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/ss7a0o/searching_cheap_way_to_buildget_a_repeater/

So I need a fairly cheap repeater for some events I am doing the radio
stuff for and we noticed last time we did it that the range wasnt good
enough so I thought why not a repeater but the stuff I found was way to expensive. And is there anything besides a license I need to look after I
live in Germany for context thx for replies submitted by /u/Kmpfarton
