https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rjk303/show_the_rookies_some_love_in_the_arrl_rookie/
The contest runs from 1800z to 2359z tomorrow.
Exchange for the contest is name, last 2 digits of the year you were
licensed, and state/province.
No log submission is required. Non-rookies call rookies only. Rookies call both.
If you come across someone calling CQ RR tomorrow, throw them some love
with a quick exchange! Or call CQ R and enjoy the thrill of a QRS pileup!
Lol.
Disclaimer - I myself am a rookie and I approve of this message.

Contacts during Wartime (WW1/WW2)
Posted: 18 Dec 2021 11:20 AM PST
https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rjehec/contacts_during_wartime_ww1ww2/
Has anyone found old logs with contacts that took place within the war
years of the world wars? I know that all amateur radio activity was
prohibited but I can’t imagine that this stopped all hams from making QSOs.
I also wonder if this could be implemented today. Many people including
myself consider ham radio to be a preferred method of communication in a
SHTF scenario. But in a situation like civil unrest could the government suspend operation or even jam the bands? submitted by /u/jebbiekerman

PRC 25/77 questions

https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rjbwe1/prc_2577_questions/
Hey everyone,
I purchased a Military radio Italian radio military radio radio prc25/77 Transceiver ER 95 off of Ebay thats functioning mainly to finish off the reenactment I am trying to portray.
I definitely should have done more research before making the purchase but
the price was too good to pass on. Ive done some searching online along
with trying to contact the Government of Canadas division with dealing with Radio laws/licenses (as you probably guessed they dont respond to emails
nor answer the phone)
Is it possible it will get seized at the border and what sortof license
will I need to operate/legally own this radio? (I am located in Canada)
I appreciate anyones answers.
Cheers! submitted by /u/Pants_are_invalid

Identifying as mobile or portable when outdoors with an HT
Posted: 18 Dec 2021 05:06 AM PST
https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rj74wu/identifying_as_mobile_or_portable_when_outdoors/
What’s the accepted way of identifying with a call sign suffix while using
an HT outdoors walking? What if you’re sitting in a park?
I’ve read many different opinions on this. I feel like /mobile makes the
most sense as /portable would imply you’re stationary but at a location
that isn’t your home QTH. ie at a picnic table while camping would probably be portable?
I’d use mycallsign /mobile but I though mobile is mainly used for those in
a car only?
HT mobile? Pedestrian mobile? HT portable? Does anyone use that?
The reason I ask is that some nets give priority check in for mobile so it would be good to know how to appropriately identify so it’s clear that I’m ‘mobile’ but also that I’m low power and likely with a very compromised antenna which is obviously a step down from anyone operating from a vehicle with an external magmount for example, which is likely what everyone thinks
of as mobile… submitted by /u/gimmesnows

Limited space, new to the hobby, need avice on the aerial and equipment to
get
Posted: 18 Dec 2021 06:45 AM PST
https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rj8wps/limited_space_new_to_the_hobby_need_avice_on_the/
So I got my foundation license in 2013, but other than the operation that
you do as part of the exam I havent actually done any operating or owned
any equipment. Im thinking of getting into the hobby again, and for that I
need equipment.
My situation:
Am on the ground floor of a shared house, so I cant put anything in the
garden / roof. I was thinking of hanging something from the curtain pole,
but I dont know what to get. I asked another operator, and he was saying something like a 2m dipole or a 70cm aerial, but I dont really know what
that would enable me to do.
I was planning on doing the intermediate exam, and I want to get the most
use out of my license by taking part in as many aspects of the hobby as possible. I have a budget of about £250ish, but can go a bit higher. For
that I would like to get all the equipment needed - is that possible?
I have a BEng in mechanical engineering, so I am fairly technical, but this whole thing is new to me. All (good) advice gratefully received.

Make a dipole for 11 meters band with 2 mobile whips?
Posted: 18 Dec 2021 07:57 AM PST
https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rjab39/make_a_dipole_for_11_meters_band_with_2_mobile/
Back in the 90s I was active on 11 meters cb-radio on its heyday. First I
used a 1/2 wave GPA antenna but after it came down during a storm I used a mobile DV27 whip that was attached to my window frame with a c-clamp. On
the outer connector part I had approximately 2.75 meters copper wire
hanging down the antenna. I didnt had a computer at that time and no access
to internet but years later I realized I made a dipole. The SWR was perfect. For nostalgic reasons I want to buy a CB radio again. I can only mount an antenna on the attic so I was thinking of making a dipole with 2 DV27
antennas by making a metal U-bracket with 2 holes. Coax with connector to
the upper whip and a shorted dummy connector to the lower whip (so that
whip connects to ground).
Did anyone tried this before? Any thoughts on this? submitted by

MMDVM recommendations, no RF on the board
Posted: 18 Dec 2021 07:38 AM PST
https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rj9xxu/mmdvm_recommendations_no_rf_on_the_board/
Can anyone recommend a MMDVM that does not have RF on the board? The repeater-builder board is the only one that I have seen:
http://www.repeater-builder.com/products/stm32-dvm.html
I currently own one of the repeater-builder boards and it has been working flawlessly for me. Im looking to build a second MMDVM repeater and was wondering if this was the only option? I would like to experiment with something different this time. I was considering the F5UII board:
https://www.f5uii.net/en/mmdvm-nucleo-stm32-pcb-shield/
Im pretty lazy, and would prefer an assembled PCB or even a kit. If there
is nothing else out there, Ill probably order a copy of the F5UII board
with the Gerber card and the BOM from Digikey/Mouser. submitted by

Which country has the hardest test?
Posted: 18 Dec 2021 08:54 AM PST
https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rjbh3q/which_country_has_the_hardest_test/
I tried Googling with no avail. Which country is hardest to get your
amateur radio license?
Edit: I realized the title and my comment are two different questions. It
looks like the test itself is standardized, so I guess it comes down to
which countries have the most red tape. submitted by /u/JamesRawles
