IARU R2 asks, "What is the value of the IARU to the average amateur?"

IARU Region 2, which includes North America and South America, recently released the minutes of their second-quarter Executive Committee meeting,
held May 26, 2021. The first six items of the minutes consisted of news
reports and mundane business: two new member-societies admitted to the
IARU, ongoing work on IARU efforts at the next World Radio Conference, a
vote to confirm a new treasurer, a standardized IARU logo.

Down toward the bottom, however, there was this interesting note:

Mr. Beviglia commented on the need to better define and articulate what the value of IARU is to the average amateur who is not necessarily a member of their society.

There was no further comment on this, but it put Item #7: Vacancies in perspective. this item notes that the positions of Workshops Coordinator, Monitoring System Coordinator, and Awards Manager are currently vacant, although candidates forĀ  Monitoring System Coordinator and Awards
    Coordinator haveĀ  been identified.

I would say that these three positions are perhaps the most important as
far as how the IARU is seen as beneficial to the average amateur. Most of
us dont care about new member societies or what the IARU logo looks like.
We do care about taking workshops, applying for awards, and monitoring the intruders on our amateur radio bands.

So, lets hope that IARU R2 get these positions filled quickly and that it
can start making a difference for the average amateur.
