    New QRP Portable

I have now completed my new QRP portable set up using a Yaesu FT818 in a
    metal flight case.

Interior of case all equipment floating on foam

I made the SOTA speech processor kit and added it to enhance the audio, as
the FT818 is a bit lacking in transmit audio punch, however I had to screen
the interior of the module in aluminium tape and return earth back to the
radio chassis to prevent RF feedback issues, this has cured the RF pick up issues.

I am using a 3,000mAh LIPO battery to power the radio as the internal nicad batteries that come with the radio are not sufficient for any reasonable duration of use.

The antenna is a homemade loaded vertical that is connected to the radio
via a right angled BNC connector on the side of the metal case.

I am using a homemade ground tuning unit to optimise the ground coupling
    down to true earth.

The Antennas are 8ft long and I have made a set of base loaded mono band antenna for 20,17,15 and 10m and additionally a multiband antenna with
    tapping points for 7-30Mhz.

Home made multiband tapped antenna (with flexible support line)

I have fitted Terry Clips to hold the Antennas in place whilst in transportation.

The radio is fitted with side rails and fold away front feet and can be operated as a stand alone set up out of the case.

I have also modified a soft case for the purposes of walking and climbing hills.
