• WG 67 announcement: list of clues

From Luciano Ward@21:1/5 to All on Fri Mar 11 08:06:15 2022
Thanks to Duke, Duke, and Duke for entering WG 67, and apologies for the delay.

I fear that my instructions for the competition were not clear, in that my intentions were that the definition in the clue had to be an anagram of the real definition (HORSE = SHORE, which defines BEACH), and not an anagram of the entered answer.

    With that in mind…

    DUKE:

Search for grain of relief within throbbing pains (6)
SPRAIN: this one I don’t get. I suspect the answer is SPRAIN, but can’t see how the definition works.

Meat from tule elk, avidly marinated, entrances (4)
TEAM: first letters, though the wordplay should have led to something like SIDE

Sister lives in state of leisure (6)
RESIST: IS in REST, though the wordplay should have led to something like OPPOSE

With my misunderstanding of the goal, this one is A(R)CHES, which anagrams to SEARCH.

Luciano: Do you want to try again? Should I run the next WG?

Repeated thanks to Duke, Duke, and Duke for entering WG 67, and apologies for the delay.

As indicated before: I fear that my instructions for the competition were not clear, in that my intentions were that the definition in the clue had to be an anagram of the real definition (HORSE = SHORE, which defines BEACH), and not an anagram of the
    entered answer.

    DUKE:

Search for grain of relief within throbbing pains (6)
ARCHES: R in ACHES, though the wordplay should have led to something like VAULTS

Meat from tule elk, avidly marinated, entrances (4)
TEAM: first letters, though the wordplay should have led to something like SIDE

Sister lives in state of leisure (6)
RESIST: IS in REST, though the wordplay should have led to something like OPPOSE

    ------------

I have an idea for WG 68, and will post it soon.
