• Casual scanner

Anybody know if this is worthwile as a convenient 'casual-level' scanner
(ie not for serious work). Or just a toy POS ?

If the latter, better recommendations for live pos and neg evaluation ?

Or is this a counterfeit knock-off of the Kodak 'Slide N Scan'.

I haven't tried that particular one, but a lot of those type scanners don't seem to produce results that warrant the purchase.
I ended up getting an Epson V700 that is a flatbed, but also has a slide facility in the lid (you load 12(?) slides onto a carrier) and from memory they end up being scanned at about 4800dpi (my last slide session was a while ago so I could be wrong
    there).

Not cheap, but is still going strong after about 8 years. One downside - I seem to have to to use Epson's software as it doesn't want to talk TWAIN to Win 10 Pro. Their s/ware is OK, but I like to keep options open.

    Hope that helps.
    Cheers,
    Magani

What are the specs? Specifically, the pixel count, horizontal*vertical.
It is apparently 13 MP, which makes it similar to mine (2994*4416 for
35mm film, Reflecta x7-Scan (no longer sold)).

It is then a quick and cheap scanner. Enough for looking at the photos,
but not for archival. Better than others, though, that have half that resolution or less. I have not seen better than 13MP yet, which I find surprising.

If it is in fact an unbranded Kodak Slide N Scan then res =
"Image Sensor: 14.0 megapixels (4320x3252) 1/2.33′′ CMOS sensor."

Or is it a rip-off of the Kodak, with slightly lesser specs, and/or very
    lesser performance ?

I do have a Coolscan for the 'real thing'.

Thanks for the answers so far, but do any of the people here who
apparently know everything about everything have an opinion on this
scanner (esp. wrt the Kodak connection) ?
