    Huh? How about when the phone user buys the charger as a separate item?

    why would they?

    people already have several chargers, so there's no need to include yet another, which will go unused. it's a waste.

    those who have been living in a cave for the last 20 or so years and
    don't have *any* usb charger or a computer with usb ports can buy a
    charger.

    as usual, you're bashing apple for something other companies do,
    including samung and google.

    <https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/why-does-samsung-not- include-a-charger-in-the-box/>
    The Galaxy S21 series does not have earphones or a charger plug in
    the box because Samsung wants to minimise the impact our products
    have on the environment.

    <https://www.theverge.com/2021/8/17/22628702/google-pixel-6-charger-not- included>
    Google is the latest manufacturer to bid farewell to the in-box
    charging brick, saying it expects the Pixel 5A will be the last phone
    to include one. That means the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro wonąt include
    one when they arrive this fall.

    Why would everyone buying an Apple phone have an Apple charger? What if you were a first-time buyer?
    I think they've expanded their North American market at least so there must be some of them.

    Why would everyone buying an Apple phone have an Apple charger?

    apple phones use industry standard usb chargers, the very same chargers
    that android phones use, along with numerous other devices, including
    recent laptops, tablets, bluetooth headsets, smart watches, smart
    speakers, travel routers, iot devices and much more.

    since many devices use usb for power, there are numerous third party
    multi-port chargers that use only one mains outlet, rather than needing individual chargers for each individual device.

    <https://i.ytimg.com/vi/F88h2lBjgFo/maxresdefault.jpg>

    What if you
    were a first-time buyer?

    you would use the charger you have from your previous phone or other
    device. worst case, use a computer's usb port, which has the added
    benefit of easily being able to back up a device to the computer.

    most people have *several* chargers, most of which are unused.

    the number of people who do not have a single usb charger is almost
    zero, which is nowhere near enough to justify including one, which
    almost everyone else will leave in the box, unused.

    I think they've expanded their North American market at least so there must be some of them.

    long ago, and not relevant.

    Um, chances most purchasers already have more USB chargers than they need.

    Why would everyone buying an Apple phone have an Apple charger?

    Not everyone, but most would have an adequate UB charger. Why would they inherently want an Apple one ? Oh, yeah, the brainwashing ...

    What if you were a first-time buyer?

    Then go buy a charger.

    This seems a new level of fuckwittery, even for you !

    Nice they don't say, "Use Apple charges or you may risk damage to your phone."

    there's no reason for them to say that, as *any* standard usb compliant
    charger will work.

    unlike many other companies, apple adheres to industry standards. hp,
    for example, intentionally blocks non-hp chargers:

    <https://images.techhive.com/images/article/2016/03/usb_c_laptop_chartin g-100649896-orig.png>

    there are some no-name chargers that are poorly constructed and pose a
    safety risk no matter what device is attached. avoid those.
