  • What's your favorite breed?

    Haven't seen any posts. So thought I would ask a question to users?

    I have a golden doodle, boxer, 2 yorkies, and an Australian shepherd/ border collie

    I have one, and he is the sweetest thing in private. Will come down to me
    in the basement while I am working just to lie on the floor looking at me.

    Woe the person that unannounced comes to the front door and knocks
    however. We have postmen, well, postwomen, that will chuck the parcel at
    the door after knocking and then just hightail it out of there as fast as
    she can, because she has heard him. :-D

    I get it - pitties, rotties, malanois and mastiffs look terrifying and
    they sound it as well. But if that is the only side of one that people
    have seen, they are judging the book by the cover and not the content.
    There is very seldom bad dogs, but very often bad owners and it is the dog(breeds) that get punished.

    What I will say about pitties is that they are smart, almost too smart,
    and they are very good at using their front paws to hold on to things
    with. That includes an intruder that has zero business being on the
    property or in the house. And as they simply do not know when to quit,
    they will f... up the intruder royally. Which, IMHO, is as it should be
    (don't trespass or break-and-enter and you'll be fine).

    I would have another pittie, or a staffy, in a heartbeat when mine passes
    away of old age.

    I've seen so many people that have the "sweet ones".
    I hate they and other breeds, get a bad rap because
    of bad owners.

    It is what it is. People have in all times feared what they do not know/understand and that fear makes them do stupid things. It is human
    nature unfortunately.

    I suspect that there are very few dogs (of any breed) that if one took the
    time to get to know the dog in question, would find that the dog is either malicious or dangerous. That is not to say that such dogs does not exist,
    only that they are far fewer than people might think.

    Politicians should have a kick up the wazoo for their moral-panics and knee-jerk legislation regarding "dangerous dog-breeds" as they are only
    doing it to score cheap political points. If they really wanted to solve
    the problem, they would prevent unsuitable pet-owners from having pets.
    Alas, that would be unpopular and might harm their chances at re-election,
    so that of course can not be done... *sigh*

    Got an 18mo Samoyed, had same in in 1975-85.
    Love him dearly. Smart, stubborn, playful.
    Prommum is, I was a teen then and he is a handful.
    It is a fun dog for a big family, maybe not an old geezer.
    But he keeps me going.
