• Jellicle Ball 2023

From Benni Tinygirl@21:1/5 to All on Fri Oct 27 14:43:40 2023
Hihi, efurrykitty! My hoomin has been very bad this year, putting off
his part in the Jellicle Ball planning until last minute. But him is
finally starting to spend some time on dis, instead of always on him's
    work stuff.

Anyhow, I was looking around at Harri Roadcat's private airport, and
some of hers airplanes looked furry inneresting. One of dem was somefing
    called a tilt-rotor. It looks like it can't decide whether it's a
caticopter or a catoplane. But I decided to check it out, so I learned
to fly it. And I haven't crashed even once! At least not furry hard.

So I'm going to take to FTR-1 (feline tilt-rotor number 1) and teleport
and fly towards a island called Aoshima which is close to Japan. Dis
place is also called Cat Island, and it and neighboring islands is home
to lots and lots of cats.

Anykitty (or doggy) interested in going wif me?

    Benni

It is early morning on a green, lushly forested island. The sounds of a
few humans moving around can be heard in the distance, but in the
current clearing on the beach no humans can be seen, just cats. Lots of
    cats.

The air over the beach seems to shimmer, and more cats start to appear, stepping out of the shimmer. The first through the shimmering gateway us
an elderly orange cat wearing a glowing collar.

[Sammy Redcat] This must be the place! [He spots another elderly cat approaching] Kon'nichiwa! My name is Sammy. I assume that you are Oineko?

[Oineko] Indeed, that is I. We have been expecting you. We actually
expected you some days ago, but we understand that schedules become
difficult when dealing with hoomins. Some of your fellow Community
members showed up a few days ago, and preparations have been underway.
All is now ready for the arrival of your group! Okami! Come, show these
    cats to their celebration area.

[A young cat approaches] Greetings, Mister Sammy! My name is Okami. In
your language I believe that translates as "Wolf". I will show you to
the celebration area. But first, I have to ask about your glowing
collar. I've never seen anything like it!

[Sammy] It's a new invention, by Francesca the Fierce. I'm quite deaf,
and this collar works very similar to a cochlear implant for humans. It
allows me to hear reasonably well.

[Okami] Ah, very good! I would like to learn more about this some time!
Here, let's walk along the beach. If any members of your party are
unable to walk long distances, we do have teleporter coordinates for the appropriate areas. Here we are! There in the middle of the clearing is
the Assembly Hall. It is a traditional Japanese structure, and was built
many lifetimes ago. It is warm, dry, and comfortable, and offers seating
for many dozens of cats and friends.

The building off to the left is the dining hall. Our villagers are busy
cooking as we speak, and a couple of your group, Ranger and Milton I
think, arrived yesterday with a large stock of supplies from the
FluffyKitz warehouse. From the wonderful smells wafting through the air
I would say that they are preparing salmon, troutfishies, lopster,
grilled ear of sooven, roast beast, turkeybird, and other wonderful
    delicacies.

Oineko has asked that I inquire whether your observation of the Jellicle
Ball is a closed affair, or if others may join in. The kitties of this
village would very much like to join you if this is permitted.

{Sammy] Abso-purr-lutely! The more the merrier. The Jellicle Ball is
intended for all who love cats to celebrate the lives and contributions
of those who have gone before us. All who honor cats are welcome to join
us! Cats, dogs who respect cats, humans who love cats and are beloved of
cats, other creatures - all are welcome.

[As they talk, Okami notices a couple of timid furry creatures
approaching, while hiding in the vegetation.]

[Okami] Mister Sammy, I believe these must be part of your Community?

{Sammy] Yes indeed! Pepe, Gigi, please come say hello! Okami, these two
lovely friends are Pepe and Gigi, both spotted skunks who normally live
on Santa Catalina Island off the coast of California. Oh, Milletoes,
come say hello! This dainty little mole is Milletoes. She also resides
most of the time on Santa Catalina Island.

[Okami] well welcome, all of you! Welcome to Cat Island! You are welcome
to enjoy our hospitality, and we hope to learn more of you and your customs.

[More kitties begin to arrive. Luko and his family greet the new
arrivals and guide them to the meal prep area. Many newly arriving
kitties are wearing fancy collars and tail bows, many of the lady cats
wearing beautiful gowns as well. Hercule Lenoir and his orchestra
teleport in as a group, and set themselves up just outside the main
    assembly hall.]

[A kitty-sized tilt-rotor aircraft approaches the island. Benni calls in
    on the radio.]

Cat Island, this is tilt-rotor aircraft 1. We'd like to touch down close
to where the Community cats are celebrating the Jellicle Ball.

"Tilt-rotor craft, fly heading 180 and watch for a clearing with a flag
cat to guide you in. You are cleared to land."

[Benni and Callie keep watching the ground below them, until they spot
the mentioned clearing with a cat waving orange signal flags. Benni
lands the aircraft and shuts down the engines. When they depart the
aircraft, their guide leads them directly to the main clearing and the
    meeting hall.]

[Benni] Do you smell that? I smell roast beast! And sammon! And toona! I
love all of those! Let's go get some!

[Callie] Ooh! Do you fink they might have some of those Delectables
    pouches? Those are my favorite!

[Benni and Callie both head for the dining hall, and both chow down on
    their favorite foods.]
