• The Ball is weeks away and the locals have a small gathering

From cshenk@21:1/5 to All on Sun Oct 18 16:18:22 2020
It's late afternoon after a long week. It would have been longer
without the help to get all the bamboo back so quickly.

As they look about, the elders are all satified and declare a small
festival type night with stories, music and games. Kittens, puppies
and little 2foots squeal with delight and scamper home to snag 'parti
clothes'. It doesn't have to be fancy, just something that feels like
    dressed up for a parti.

Others grab musical instruments or small ping-pong balls for a game of paw-pong, a local favorite.

It's a bit like Jai-Lei but with the paw in a cup shape to hit the ball
about to one another. A sort of handball but with the object to keep
the ball going and matched to each others skill. There is no point
scoring. In the process though, they exercise the paw for their
    awesome paw-greetings.

Noticing P2nya working over her books, a dapper middle aged kittah
invites her to share a plate of fingerling fish in fish sauce graced by
just a touch of nip. He's an Australian Mist cat, named Milo.

[Benni appears though the teleporter and goes looking for Francesca.
Jocko the Diving Cat and Big Mama appear, with Big Mama hanging back a
bit so that Jocko can introduce her to the locals. Having a large black
panther show up in the middle of the village could be a frightening sight!

The Second World cats also show up, accompanied by GiGi and Pepe, the
friendly Catalina Island skunks. The Second World cats carry trays of
    yummy treats.

Big Mama here's some local musicians playing music, and she starts to
    dance gracefully and sinuously.

Prince sees them and waves them over to the big table.

The locals look a little startled at the skunks but a little girl 2foot
goes 'pretty' and hugs Pepe with no ill effect other than a resigned
look on his face. Ah well, he knows he's really handsome and little
girls have trouble resisting soft black and white furry things. At
least she knows to be gentle. GiGi smirks until another little girl
snags her up for a cuddle. Gigi and Pepe look across and curl tails
across one another. It could be worse. They could be wearing doll
    clothes...

The Bamboo Master looks up and sees Big Mama. He smiles and brings her
a bigger chair then settles back to finish some exceptionally fine
binding of bamboo no bigger than thread, to a delicate jewelry box. He
has several mirrors about him centering the light 'just so' for the
work and needs 10 more minutes to finish. He bends to his task and all
else fades away for him for a bit.

Luko who has been setting up with the musicians finishes and they all
    come over.

Any new comer is of interest here. While tourists are appreciated,
these are true guests which is rare. They crowd about a bit to hear
about their new friends. they look with anticipation for their
    introductions as everyone settles in.

Milo (My Low) smiles. Oh I've been here all the life I really
remember. I remember some 2foots and my mother and siblings. I
remember they prised breeding females more than boys but I think they
prised me just because they were good people.

Anyways, somehow we got separated and here I am! I live with the
Master Fisher, her son, and another apprentice who just joined. She
says I just have to practice with spear fishing and I'll be a Master
    Fisher.

He laughs, when the big tourist influx comes, we import delicacies to
feed them but when it's just us, we live off the land pretty much and
trade what we have a lot of, with those who have something else.
Tomorrow I bring both Apprentices with me to trade salted preserved
fingerlings for crayfish that is plentiful in their rivers. The next
village over from them dropped off some live fresh water mussels for us
to stock our lake with which we will also bring back.

Life here is pretty simple but rich with crafts and friends.

How is your life Lovely Lady?

Milo blinks and smiles. We has a computer here in Cat Cat. It's at da
elders house. One of da apprentices hooked it up to a purrjector anna
wez all gets to use it when she's not doing city business on it. We
gather furr special evening shows wif the big screen. Da Bamboo

Cheers erupt from the other end of the table as the fresh durian
arrives with a large selection of bamboo scoops made to a rounded spoon
shape. Little plates of food-safe glazed clay painted by the pottery
journeyman and her 2 apprentices get stacked. They are about 2 inches
across and have the rustic appeal of handmade. No 2 are identical
however they complement each other into a whole set. 2 and 4foots
gather about to collect some, keeping to that end of the table. Others
quietly joke and move down the table as the aroma of fresh Durian
arrives. Milo's nose wrinkles (he's one of the 50% that can't stand
Durian) but suggests P2nya try it as it doesn't taste like it smells
and she won't know until she trys it.

Meantime, with the same advice, Luko and Prince enter the line. Luko
looks very unsure he wants to try this but Prince is intrieged and
urges his friend to at least try it.

As they enjoy a small festival before the main one, night has nearly
    fallen.

They want to run the projector and fully charge the batteries so the
Master Fisherman throws a switch. In the dark, several arms with
turbines drop into the waterfall and start generating electricity. USB
ports for charging electrical devices start to glow faintly. They will
run this way until the morning of the Jellicle Ball which will provide
all the energy needed for bands, stage lights and such.

All is in place as several kittahs show up with the big screen and
projector. In place, they continue the meal and new guests deciding if
    they like Durian.
