    only to learn that they have to reschedule... so you can waste another

    I agree with that, and I allege that it also applies to appointments.
    (I would claim that allegation as original, but it's uniquely possible
    that it's from some movie, too)

    In any case, in my case, that's what's been happening. It's not that
    the other party fails to show up, but that they show up hours - or
    even days - early at inopportune times. And that has caused several incompatible things to happen at once. Fortunately for me, recent
    instances of appointment-keeping failure have resulted in
    inconvenience for the other party rather than my own literally strict
    and reliable appointment-keeping self.
