• The World's Ugliest Lighthouse

We made a quick trip to Tacoma to visit with family. We went out and looked at various odd sights. The highlight of our trip was the Brown's Point Lighthouse Park. It's a nice little city park tucked into an odd spot on a little point of land in
Puget Sound. 90 years ago they sent out a crew to build the world's ugliest lighthouse there. MY wife and her sister disputed this assessment. I checked. I could not find an uglier lighthouse anywhere.

In the official pictures you can't see how crudely this thing was built. They had a stack of planks and a bunch of cement. It didn't need to be completely smooth, so the didn't try. It was just a little lighthouse in the middle of nowhere. Some
spots still stand out because some of the nails had rusted by the time they removed the forms and left behind some of the metal.

The biggest disappointment was that they had a big old bell that used to be rung by a clockwork mechanism. Someone had to wind it every 90 minutes when it was being used. The old mechanism was long gone and they wouldn't let you into the little
building that housed the bell so you could ring it. It was still a nice spot with a beautiful view.

We also enjoyed a variety of "gourmet" hot dogs from The Red Hot. Seriously.
